Found it ... It seems that these have defaulted to ticked rather than unticked - i guess an update took place this weekend? Many thanks ! Not the easiest thing to find, now unticked - RR will now hopefully resume normal service. Nearly all the other tick-boxes are ticked so I suspect any new ones default to ticked if / when they are created. Alternatively it might have been gremlins tinkering when the Proboards staff were off for the weekend?

Today was fun digging though an old-school wiring harness that has been "improved" many times over the years. Lots of comments along the lines of "it shouldn't do that - should it?" and "everything checks out fine - why is it not working". Daft things like simple short wires that measured ok on a meter but failed to carry electricity made things interesting Using the nearby wiring diagram would have meant admitting defeat so that was avoided as long as possible - then we found the diagram didn't match the wiring on the car. Situation normal It made a nice change from trying to fix the same type of problems on my car, meeting new folk off the forum and getting up close to a Covin was a bonus

^ Hi Chris, thanks for the list of must-visit stands I'm in Birmingham for the next few weeks, leaving the weekend the show is on. Before I book tickets - are you there Friday & Saturday (I'm thinking Friday will be less busy so looks best for me) Do we need to arrange "RR - hello my name is..." badges for future events? Cheers, hopefully see you at the show

its like people who buy houses right on a main road then complain about traffic noise! Yep, I worked with a chap who (in winter) was proudly telling everyone he had bought a lovely cottage a few doors away from a tradtional pub in a small village, a few months late he was arranging petitions to close their beer garden as his "noisy inconsiderate neighbours" were keeping him awake at night. The Coperage pub / disco in the Quayside party zone at Newcastle has been serving beer since 14th century, it got closed a few years ago as folk in the newly-built (posh) flats complained about the noise www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/historic-quayside-pub-cooperage-closes-1457534 Also far too many examples where houses & estates have been built next to airports / race circuits, who then have to close due to noise complaints (Croft was my local track before it got restrictions about how many days it could hold races). Thankfully some sensible descisions get made - shame everyone involved has to put up with stress & hassle until the case is closed. Fun times ahead

HoTWire has the same idea as me - I'm now getting notifications when anybody posts on a thread I've bookmarked.

Or is it best to walk away because of the guys selling it? Seems a daft thing to do but my gut just doesn't like them. I've walked away from a few cars and bike over the years because the vibe from the seller wasn't right. I also bought 2 cars from sellers who gave off the "wrong" vibe, I wish I'd walked away from those cars too Have an pic & some positive vibes

This is one of the threads I follow most on here, and normaly click "like" to show I've read the latest update from the other side of the world. Is there a "I want to show I've read this but the *like* button sends the wrong message" button I can use for the latest update? It's always educational to read what's going on with RR's in other parts of the world, but am sorry to hear about the latest family developments <hugs>

I'm heading to Birmingham tomorrow and will be based there for about 6 weeks. Would be curious to have a look at the Covin if I get spare time, might also be able to help with the wiring. What is the problem / is it old-school or ECU ... emerald etc? / what harness is it based on?

IIRC the Zetec was originally based on the CVH engine. Small wonder that you can use Zetec bits on a CVH . The CVH IIRC came out in the early 80s and the last 'original' Zetecs stopped being made in 2004 in the Focus, unless the Americans kept getting the Zetec; after all, the American Focus did come with the cambelt snapper, sorry, CVH into the early 2000s! 20 years in production isn't bad for what is deemed by many to be a flawed engine. I think the CVH was based on the earlier Kent block below ... so development ran from the '59 Anglia to the latest Zetec The Ford Fiesta / Ka 1.3 and 1.6, is based on the Ford Crossflow, which itself is based on the pre Crossflow, which first saw use in about 1959 in the Anglia. So nigh on 50 years of use. Do bikes qualify? The Honda 50cc step-though was introduced in 1958 and has sold more than 60 million www.wired.com/2008/05/honda-sells-its/

I got a BMW 325 (immobiliser) key cut at the official stealership a few years ago for under £20 - they needed V5 & ID, then took less than a week. Great price, absolute bargain, shame somebody had swapped ecu's so the "as good as new" key didn't work.

Can't help with the actual regulations but search for "hardtail chop images" and you'll find plenty of UK bikes with side-mounted plates & rear lights

If someone is restoring it then you'll get it back when they try and put it back on the road as long as you can prove you/a family member owns the car. DVLA are not consistant in my experience (many years ago), when I bought 2 bikes without logbooks. Bike 1 - the police came to visit soon after I applied for the logbook as it had been reported stolen (turned out to be insurance fraud by a silly previous owner) Bike 2 - I applied for and received a logbook in my name no problems, at which point I was confident it was legit so got it mot'd then sold it. My buyer had problems when he applied to tax it due to "he said" / "she said" type accusations between the chap I got it from and the earlier owner. Summary - sometimes DVLA check if stolen when you apply for the V5, sometimes they issue the V5 then check if stolen when you go to tax it Footnote : maybe they have fixed all the problems with their sytems since I was involved

My mot failed - one of the items was "excessive oil leaks" (or similar) - the tester said it would be fine just wiping any oil off the bottom of the engine & crossmember before I took it back for retest.

Grumpynorthener to Happynorthener? Great news on getting this sorted, are you going to change your name... Semi-related, I'm relocating from North East (maybe to South West) an understand why folk might change from Grumpy to Happier Questions : where & when (I need advance notice to refit my Pioneer subwoofer), and could we make it after April (we have a new maid starting & I've been asked to stay local so I can lend a hand). That sort of thing isnt a problem round my way. Its more like a competition. One turns it up, they all turn it up. Please clarify - do you have a surplus of subwoofer-equipped retros, or an over-abundance of maids ? (both sound interesting, but enquiring minds would like to know )

^^^ I think so - sure we can fit 300 Retro riders & their cars all around his neighbours drive for an outside party till the small hours +1 Questions : where & when (I need advance notice to refit my Pioneer subwoofer - it works great as an outside party disco ), and could we make it after April (we have a new maid starting & I've been asked to stay local so I can lend a hand).

Tip : sniff the oil on the dipstick, you'll soon smell if any petrol has got into the oil system. To cure diluted oil once the fault is fixed just take the car for a few long drives to get the engine hot and the petrol will evaporate. Change the oil when you get a chance. I had a suspected leak from the fuel pump into my oil recently, fitted a new pump and after a few trips the petrol smell went, and oil pressure gained about 5psi (thicker oil = more pressure than diluted oil)
