How are you getting on with the Victor? I noticed in Practical Classics, that SPL are advertising the old e-coat process again! Are they back onto this, or is it yet another bluff? Keep up the good work! Leigh. 5 days ago Gordon removed the Victor from SPL, because they cannot provide any coating service for a full car, neither the E coating or the new Nickel Plating. If they are advertising that they can I would read the small print, or ring trading standards

Gordon certainly was not happy when he told me that it had been left outside all this time
I really don't know what it is with SPL, they seem to have a couldn't care less attitude, perhaps they have got too used to being the only ones offering the service.
The Pro strip guys say they'll have the car back by Christmas, lets hope they keep to there word

Well Gordon picked the Victor up from SPL on Wednesday, it was becoming increasingly clear that they had no set date in mind for the new process. The car has been outside in the rain, since it was dropped off, months ago, and looks to be suffering for it and then it was taken to Pro Strip, they seem very keen to do the work and are 1/2 the price of SPL, so fingers crossed it works out this time Meanwhile the threat of Redundancy has been lifted for me, the company I work for has been bought out by a bigger group, and it looks like there may be more opportunities in the future, so that is good, and I have to say a huge relief for me personally It might mean I don't have as much time to work on Cars, but we will just have to wait and see, I guess you cant have it both ways

Gordon and I took a trip to Shrewsbury today, he had been offered an Early FB Victor for scrap money, its been in storage for the last 20 years, but it has the same colour interior and trim as his yellow car, and could also be a valuable source of bits and pieces along the way So hitched up the trailer and set off The storage turned out to be an old ammunition bunker on an MOD site, the guy has been storing cars there for 30 years, but now the MOD have decided to decommission them, (pull them done in laymans terms), so they have to be cleared, and its been getting damp in there for the last 10 years Heres a shot from inside, apparently he has had up to 50 cars in , in the past, each of those bays could hold 3 cars deep by 2 cars wide, it was huge inside So freed the brakes off and pushed her outside, unfortunately the registration number was transferred 20 years ago Actaully quite solid underneath, but the interior looks like it might need some attention So got her loaded and headed for home

That is a perfectly acceptable first attempt, just needs a bit more definition, and a bit more practice

Got a new fuel pump, filter and bracket fitted today, its really satisfying working with new parts and plugs too, all shiny and new. and fitted the front bumper and grills, the bumper was a real pain to get into the fixings, must be why these were hand built, I don't even think those German Robots would have been able to do it but did not fit the grill as it needs some attention but managed to work out how to split it, so will respray the black and clean the chrome

Top work Mel, you realise when you finish this your local grinding disc supplier will go out of business. ;D ;D

C'mon Dave, you know you want to, pick up that grinder and let the sweet smell of hot metal and rust dust waft up your nostrils ;D ;D ;D

Ahh just when you got it finished, your starting to take it to bits again Thats a bit alien to guys like me who do restorations, but I guess this will always be an ever evolving project

Got some jobs done on the car this week, a couple of major ones from my to do list First up was getting a replacement front screen fitted, the painter had cracked the old one getting it out, and it was some task trying to get a half decent replacement, frightened of breaking it, I thought I had better entrust this job to a professional, so the windscreen fitter came yesterday We fitted all new chrome trims as well, but am struggling to get the bottom corners to sit right, will have to come back to that later Meanwhile the painter had also managed to jamb the sunroof mechanism putting it back in, and had snapped the winding handle, after much head scratching and even more " in out, in out" I realised that he had fitted the Left hand bracket on the right and the right hand bracket on the left, this meant that the cams which tell the sunroof to be up or down, were upside down, no wonder it was stuck So swapped all that round, replaced a few broken guides and parts and now it works a treat, " Tilt and slide "
