Just checked my lasses policy on her bmw and that says third party driving only applies to cars with a valid policy.
I considered a 1 day temp cover, but that still doesn't sort out the problem of no tax.

A family member who lives 1 mile from me, has a spare garage and is happy to let me store my Celica there.
I have a problem that my insurance ran out and the car is on SORN. I was going to get someone local who does recovery to move it for me, or ask my local mechanic if he still has traders plates so he could move it.
I was talking to my mate at work, he said I should drive it up, I said its not worth the risk, even for a mile with no insurance. He then said his car insurance says he can drive anyone else's car third party, and he said he would be happy to drive it up there for me, and just take the risk of driving it untaxed.
Is it legal for him to drive it, even though the car has no current policy on it?

I've been doing a bit of research on these, and I'm interested to note that the Daimler versions of everything seem to start at more like £1800, when there are plenty of Jags at £500. I know the Daimler was the highest spec, but I hadn't expected it to make so much difference at 15 years old. I must admit, I'm a sucker for a fluted grille and walnut picnic tables, but it looks like I'll have to content myself with the Jag models..... I think some of the soveriegn ones came with things like the walnut picnic table, but I am not 100% certain

I could live with that. I'm imagining myself wafting to some of my Northern destinations on a leather upholstered cloud. It appeals to me. Thats why I bought it, I am in Leeds, my family are all around Newcastle area, our lasses are in Wales and London. I work silly hours in a works van, so it never gets touched during the week. But when I want to go visit friends and family, its a peach. Best thing is, on the motorways its not much worse on fuel than my old celica or our lasses bmw compact. It just glides along in silence up the motorways.

I just got my tax reminder, and realised at the end of February I have owned this car for 6 months, how time has flown. In this time the car has performed without fault. It goes like a bullet when needed, and when driven normally its pretty good on fuel. 28mpg is normal at 70-75mph cruising.

I have no idea if the bumper is standard or from a GT4, as far as I know the car is bog standard, thats interesting

Well this is a very late reply. I read the advice and couldnt seem to find a good jag for the money, so bought an old celica at the end of 2011. A couple of months before Christmas, I found a XJ6, the x300 model, in racing green, full magnolia leather, 77k on the clock and full Jaguar history for £1000. I am glad I waited for a good one. I love this car so much, its the nicest car I have ever owned.

I have been offered some storage for this car, in the next couple of weeks, I would much prefer to sell it, cos it will go in storage and probs never come out. Last for go for sale on here, price drop to £400 no offers. This cost me £1000 a year ago so its a proper bargain. I have this old gen 5 celica up for sale, bought a jaguar now and cant afford to keep both so this has to go. gen 5 celica tax ran out december on sorn now mot june 2013 137k 1 owner 1992-1994 2nd owner 1994 - 2011 myself 2011 to now 16 old mots full history with 19 stamps new sony x plod cd with aux input new radiator bottom of drivers door is rusted and 1 small dent in the quarter, otherwise its spot on I paid £1000 for this back end of 2011, up at a bargain £500, but no offers, selling as I need the space, so offering it at a bargain price. Its only going up for sale for a week or so, if it doesn't sell I will be putting it away in storage. Its a bargain at £500, but I would rather store it than sell for anything less. If you require any info please get in touch.

When I was in high school a friend of a friend got one of these in white and I remember thinking it was one of the coolest cars I had ever seen! It looks great whats the plans for this?? I haven't got a great deal I want to do to this car, I would like some slightly bigger alloys, something a bit more modern, and theres a couple of bits of body work need attention, other than that I am happy with it. It drives and handles lovely.

I haven't had a car for a while, just ran an old ford ranger truck, bought this earlier in the year, not even sure if its old enough for retro rides but here goes It had one owner in'92 for a year when it was registered, then another female owner from '93 to late 2011 and has a full history, totally original and un-modded, only thing I have done is fit a CD/mp3
