Bit of a late post but I picked this Jaguar XJ6 3.2 (X300 model) up at the start of the year. It only had 70k on the clock and came with a full mot. The only let down is the bodywork. Stuff like the arches are mint, but there's a hole in the front bumper, the passenger door has a really bad spray job, theres a rectangle thats really badly out in colour, the bonnet has some bad scratches. Most of this was caused when a garage door blew off and landed on the car at the previous owners house. The 50 shades of grey title is actually a little joke, aside from the couple of bits I have listed above, 95% of the body is great and the car look stunning The first pic at the top makes the car look great, but scrolling down, you can see its not as good as it looks in the best picture. The first thing I want to do to it is give it some nice wheels. Looking at an old RR thread the XJ40 and X300 wheel size are the same 5x120.65, but also 5x120 will fit, which opens a whole world of choices as its a bmw size. With the bodywork, I am in 2 minds, some days I would like to get it all mint and all the grey matched up properly at a paint shop. Other days I fancy doing stain black or red oxide.

I got thinking tonight there are certain songs or albums that remind me of cars I've owned. Examples here, and some records stay with me as I am terrible for leaving a single CD in for months at a time.
When I first passed my test in 1997 I had a Rover 416 and the previous owner had fitted a high end sound system, I used to blast Prodigy's Fat of the Land.
I had a mk5 derv escort, I bought that so I could do big motorway miles in 2005 up and down to my lasses house, Kanye West's Gold digger was always on the radio.
Last autumn I had a mx5, I left Queens of the stoneage's Rated R in the disc player for the few month that I owned it.
Has anyone else got a song/album that reminds them of their old ride?

I'm planning to bring a 1997 Jaguar XJ6, the same model as the 1994 XJ6.
My mate who is organising our club stand says my car will be allowed on the club stand as its been in production since 1994.
Could someone confirm I'll be allowed into our club stand? Coming to the gathering is going to cost me a good £250 so I could do with knowing now wether my car is allowed on the stand or not.
Thanks in advance.

I've checked every fuse in the car which took ages, 2 sets under the bonnet and 2 sets under the heelboard in the back. I'll have a play with the multimeter and see if I can find another live wire.
Never thought of selling the parrot kit, but it's worth a go if I can get £50 for it.

I've bought a jaguar which has a tape player/radio and did have a CD multi changer in the boot. The previous owner removed the multi changer as it was faulty. I've got a nice kenwood header unit which has cd, radio and ipod so I thought rather than buying a new multi changer, I'll remove the tape player and fit my kenwood header. I thought this would have been a straightforward swap, but things were made very difficult as the car has a parrot Bluetooth kit fitted. I have never seen so many wires in my life, see the picture below. I removed all the trim and got tape player out. I bought a proper wiring loom kit and plugged in all the wires, tested the system, cd header and Bluetooth were all working fine. I then went to refit the front panel, which has the clock, heater system and header unit all the one panel. Due to the ridiculous amount of wiring I could only get the header half in before it jammed solid. 2 full afternoons were spent with trial and error trying to get the the wiring moved into a position which would let the header slide back. After removing the trim under the steering wheel, I could finally pull the loom into the corner and after hours of trying, the CD player finally clicked into place. I put the trim back together and fired up the car, the Bluetooth and header were showing no signs of life. Tonight I came home and plugged the jaguar tape player in, again this is not lighting up. I decided to remove the Bluetooth, as one the wiring is everywhere, and two I don't need it. I then discovered that all the blue tooth wiring has been twisted together and taped over. After removing all the blue tooth and wiring, I again tried to use the jaguar tape deck and still no luck. I tested to make sure it was earthing properly, all ok, the positive wire was getting power with ignition, also ok. I then checked the permanent live feed and this is not showing any volts. I got a tiny bit of wire and ran a bridge from the positive wire to the permanent wire and tried again, this time everything worked ok. So, questions, how can the permanent positive feed just die like that? Also what's the best way to fix this? The only thing I can think of, is to put a wire to the battery and run it all the way through the car and solder it to the permanent positive connection. The permanent positive wire goes into the loom by the gear knob and away into the car, so would be a nightmare to trace and follow. I should add the loom has been shoved and pulled back and forth quite hard over the last 2 afternoons.

Although the new direct debit tax system has only been going a few months, has anyone flipped back and forth between taxing and sorning every month?
The reason I ask is my Citroen panel van has been sat on sorn since October. I sold my car over the xmas holidays, then on Jan the 1st I taxed my van with the new direct debit monthly system so I could have transport until I found a new car. My new car was bought last week, so I don't really need the van for a little while, so was thinking of sorning it at the end of January and then just taxing it when I need it for the odd month here and there.
Just wondered if anyone has done similar, and wether its easy to cancel and restart the direct debit.

I'm sure there's a receipt in the history file that says it had 4 tyres in 2008, but there's no guarantee it's those tyres, could be though. I'll get some pics up when it's daylight.

Is anyone knowledgable on the laws regarding the condition of tyres?
I bought a car at the weekend and the tyres have lots of very small cracks in the sidewalls. I know the usual rules about tread depth but I've never looked into the laws with regards to the actual general condition of the tyre.
Google brings up this
be compatible with the types of tyres fitted to the other wheels not have any lump, bulge or tear caused by separation or partial failure of the structure. not have a cut or tear in excess of 25mm or 10% of the sectional width of the tyre, whichever is the greater, and which is deep enough to reach the ply or cord. not have any part of the ply or cord exposed
Does cracked tyre walls fall under any of that?

That one went for £410 tonight which seems a good price, I'm still looking around, but there's a good chance I'll end up with a Jaguar.

I'm after another jaguar xj saloon, anything from early to mid 90s, I'm after a straight 6 model, I don't want a late 90s x308 v8 version. My budget is in hundreds rather than thousands. Located Leeds, don't mind a road trip for the right car.

1 Buy a new car, I sold my mx5 at the end of December and I'm currently sat without a car. I can't decide what to get but I think I'll end up with another Jaguar.
2 Finish my Citroen Relay van, it's on the road as a panel van, but I want to semi convert it to a camper/dayvan but one that can be emptied of cooking and sleeping things and rapidly turned back into a van for moving mainly motorbikes.
3 Tidy up my Suzuki bandit and finish off my gsxr1100 that I'm building up.
