Hello and welcome.
Prepare for rust, look for it everywhere, pay special attention around the windscreen, inner wings and turrets and make sure you look from above and below. Sills, rear end, front, back, top and both sides.
Trim can be a bit tricky.
You aiming for a Royale saloon or coupe?
Good luck. There have been a few about recently.

I had an awful X reg one, the body was dropping apart but the floors were good, I know they were good because they held water really well. In the winter the pliers I had to use to pull the bonnet release became a sad iceberg of metal uselessness. The exhaust had come off entirely and behind the beautifully blended on bumpers, there was no metal. This was also the reason you couldn't put anything I the front or rear boot. When the fuel light came on you had 3 seconds to refill and the lights worked, didn't work, did stuff when they felt like it. Many fun stories. Well, 2. Awesome car. I'd have another but I'd love a 1300.

Dammit. Let's me select a picture but then only the option to cancel. Can't post from this thing.

No bias shown here. Must be loads on the continent. 6 cyl RWD Comfortably seats 4 Unstressed 5 sp manual LSD amazing parts availability * Perfect balance of performance and economy. Unusual ** *not necessarily **except here, where there are 4 or so.

This made me excited. Don't know where the pic is from though. Not seen one for years. Possibly decades.

Bit modern but all is not as it seems. This innocent looking courtesy car harbours a BX 1.9 TZD lump iirc.

I'll try to get a picture of our big one (if I can find it). It's old and big and we've had a Series 2 Land Rover balanced on it.

No problems for our lot, probably better as I could have used the Monday off to recover this year.

I'd try for a slightly newer Clarion or a slightly older Alpine.
The Japanese made Alpines are better.
Clarion made some very nice units too. I'll try to find some examples.

Thanks Having just had a poke around this it's going to need the rear suspension crossmember dropping to sort the back end out, exhaust off first, offside front wing off, steering box out, engine out and drivers footwell stripped. Big job, too much for me at the moment so into the storage hedge it will go. I fear what I will find behind the front wing and I guess I should look at the other side too. This will all lead to many repairs and I daresay a respray too. It'll need a drivers door or some type of repair and the boot lid isn't amazing. Sent from ho hum using proboards

Agreed. The driveline is fundamentally poor in the Freelander so increasing the power won't be good for it. The reason the KV6 works (for a while at any rate) is that the auto box is fairly forgiving.
The other thing to do is lose the 4WD but if you're going for more oomph then it seems counterproductive.
Reliability wise, anything will be better than a Freelander K but will it be worth the effort?

Not settled on a head unit yet though. Are they ALL yours? I thought I was bad with an old school alpine tape unit (like in your pic, top left) An Alpine flip out CD unit, with DSP processor, and Minidisc multichanger with graphic display. About 5 Sony head units from the nineties and noughties and one Ipod Alpine from more recent times. This picture doesn't include the Sony department or any of the miscellaneous ones. Or the amps. Or the speakers . Or any of the wiring harnesses, interconnects, processors..... Or multi changers. But yes. I might have a problem.
