1984 Golf Cabriolet 1.6 GL Auto
I really do not want to sell this, but we’ve just found out we’re expecting a baby – so I want to pool some funds to buy something a bit newer.
69k miles with the last couple of MOTs and some receipts to back it up
Inside – Grey and plaid seats, in excellent condition with no bolster wear at all, door cards are all spot on, and the door cappings have no cracks. Black dash and carpets, all still in good nick. Headlining is in good condition, few little nicks and could do with a clean in places.
Kenwood single disc CD player in the dash, with stock front speakers, and JBL 6x9s in the back on a stealth custom made MDF shelf.
Outside – Really good, only a couple of trolley dings in the doors, and one under a rear light. The bonnet could do with repainting to be perfect as it’s starting to surface rust underneath. All the trims, clips and stuff are present and in good nick. The rear lights have been painted all red, with green indicator bulbs fitted, so they’re not a problem come MOT time. I fitted a good second hand single headlight chrome strip grill shortly after I bought it, not cheap!
Hood – A new vinyl one was fitted shortly before I bought it, and it has no rips, holes or leaks at all.
Underneath – The car’s been waxoiled a few times in its life, and as far as I can see it’s never been welded at all.
Mechanicals – This is the most reliable VW I’ve ever had (including the 2001 Passat I had!) I’m using the car daily for work since March and it’s performed faultlessly thus far. The 3spd auto shifts smoothly and is great around town and on the motorway. The engine’s fitted with a weber 32/34 carb with a manual choke, and was serviced including oil and filter 1000 miles ago, it pulls well and uses no oil or water.
I was told by the previous owner the car was owned by the wife of a VW tech before him, and it shows, genuine parts have been used wherever possible.
Modifications – I’ve had a set of Hottuning coilovers fitted, with new Febi topmounts less than a year ago. All the threads blathered in copper grease so they shouldn’t seize up!
It’s MOT’d until June 2010, and went through the last test needing one tyre. It had one advisory which was ‘tyres running close to wheel arches’ but if that’s a problem you can raise the suspension!
Tax runs out at the end of October.
I’ll sell it on a set of standard 13 inch steels for £1200.
If you want the Schmidt Modernlines that are on it as well it’ll cost you £1600.
The wheels are 8J x 15 ET20. They’re a bit kerbed, but straight, and have four 195/45/15 tyres (2 yokos half worn, 2 Admirals almost new)
This is a cheap easy reliable way into Mk1s, without paying the premium that tin tops fetch.
Any questions PM me or Email me (tom.law@fsmail.net), I don't have my phone on at work.
