So are we calling those baths your water feature or a Double Infinity Pool? Both ! i dug earth/rocks away ,and threw the cast iron one in today .. managed a reasonable infinity factor .. then , in the afternoon , i started fixing the cable to the barn to the wall and wiring in the isolator . regards robert

Sunny sunday morning , a nippy 4c overnight makes it a crisp, fresh feeling day , very nice . yesterday , mr cryo man and myself fitted the last two windows , this went well despite the gusty wind , and now all the blown windows on the front of the house have been changed and frames cleaned , from a vision through the bottom of a deep sea diving bell , to this .. super clear, so much so i have to touch the window each time i go past to make sure it's closed . compared to the hs when i got here , the windows frames look a bit brighter now .. interestingly , although i didn't go for the soft insulator and only went fro the argon filled units , it seems quieter in the house . after the huge relief of getting these windows in with no injury nd no broken glass , i asked my happy helper if he might give me a lift with the two baths littering the place , one down by the pump hs and one up here in the garden ,so i could make a water feeet cha . the one up here was asimple pressed steel one , not v heavy ...the one down by the pump hs , was cast iron . yup ..bog off heavy ....i got a jaded look from my helper , but he set to and with a few stops we got it up to the outlet of the lane drain . then , in the afternoon , i got out the pick and shovel , and dug away enough for this to happen .. and once filled it flowed off the side nicely .. the plan is to set the next bath beside it so the water cascades from one to the other then off the second one to a dug out pool .then fill in the sides with rocks , and generally landscape it all . clearing away the greenery will expose a nice view .. Elsewhere , the area under the orchard appears to have broken out in a lovely carpet of some flower or other , when you think this used to look like.... a total wilderness with nettles and brambles knitted together , oh and those poxy thorn trees/bushes , it amazes me how new unknown flowers pop up so quickly after a strim /hack and mow . i'll leave you with a little colour regards robert

so do you jut wop it in the hole and pull downwards john , then edge it out a bit and repeat, i assume the lead in curve stops the kinking ? Spot on Ivan. Gently Bentley and you can just ease it round a little bit at a time. It takes a bit of care and you have to make sure that the bends are in the same plane. A straight line on the diameter may help here. thank you john , whats the wall thickness it can work with ? regards robert

Nice work on getting that mower deck repaired! Welding old steel is always fun!! Thank you phillip , interestingly it welded more easily than rusty car bodywork .maybe slightly thicker, and better quality steel ?

well this week i was mostly eating toast . other than that, i spent a bit of time on my knees in the barn welding , hammering , and disc cutting metal plate , as i tried to extend the life of the mower deck beyond 38 years old . like so .. as you might be able to see i had endless fun with the welder feed stuttering and not working , however , once i had discovered that the drive wheel had two grooves in it , and the one i was using was for .6 wire , and i was actually using .8 wire , it was the work of a moment to whip it off spin it round and use the correct groove .that coupled with removing the drum mounting spring , and shimming it instead so it could spin freely , made a bit diff . welded up the grass chutes as well ,after making metal bits for them .. gave it a coat of primer top and bottom , then started seam sealing all the openings and spraying it silver , then ran out of paint other jobs done ,new bearings in the small blade , new belt arrived , took apart the steering toothed crescent , and fixed the huge amount of play in the centre bolt .throttle cable now works well , cleaned air filter which was terribly blocked ,got some oko tyre sealant for the constant slow leaking rear tyres . paint will be here monday , and i can reassemble it all , then just need to get a battery ! must remember to sharpen blades ! in other news the 6 new window units , to replace the condensy ones upstairs arrived on thursday , so that will be a fun job , looking at the windows , it may be i can unscrew the openers , and so change the glass on the floor , not up a ladder . regards robert

Looks like a full on Easter, noice! The tree pruning reminds me of a time I was pruning a cherry in the garden of the house we'd just bought. I was carefully cutting the branches away on the opposite from the side I'd propped my ladder. Of course, one of them did that whole fall whilst being cut but hang on long enough to swing round thing which meant it clattered the ladder and knocked it down. Luckily I had my phone in my pocket so had to ring my other half to come and pick up the ladder so I could get down - after she finished laughing of course! i can completely relate to that steve , this long ladder was so narrow and pretty un balanced on the round trunk , i was creeping up 25 ft , as smoothly as i could , then reaching up and using a 1" ratchet strap to tie it to the trunk , then going back down the wobbly nightmare ,and getting my bow saw ,then creeping back up again . To stop the gert big hunk of tree i then cut off falling on me or the ladder, i would cut the highest bits ,so they would fall on the lower bits , and then do my casting out rope and weight to try to catch it and pull it down . i did occasionally have bits fall on me on thier way down , and just clung limpetlike to the ladder as it wobbled and tuck my head down hoping i wouldn't get knocked off . in my mind was the mantra , "i'm on my own" , and the imagined sound of bones breaking as i hit the ground . This kept me pretty focused ! all's well that ends well ! regards robert

thanks crockpot "It was once thought that you could use lesser celandine to predict the weather as they close their petals before raindrops. The leaves are high in vitamin C and have been used to prevent scurvy. Wordsworth was such a fan of the lesser celandine, he wrote three poems about them: The Small Celandine, To the Same Flower and To the Small Celandine." "They are mentioned in C. S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. When Aslan returned and the woodland turns from winter to spring, the ground was covered in all directions with yellow celandine flowers." see ! i told you it was getting all a bit Narnia here !

happy Easter chaps , I hope your all full of chocolate , and other sweetnesses ,and had a nice bank holiday weekend . i decided to have a day out , and went and helped mr cryo with his triple wammy ! or , as its normally knows , a ransome tripple mk4 ,like so .. which when assembled and mowing should look like this.. we spent the afternoon in matterhorn weather ,trying to wk out how the wiring should look , and realising it had a relay for the starter which was sadly puny ,someone had definitely been in there .. finding no spark , we tried to work out how the ignition worked , was there a coil , was there a magneto ? it was all hidden behind the engine cover , that looked like it would be an engine out job to get at . so, next day, i did the sensible thing , and fitted a coil ! using the points and the cap that were there , i rigged a direct 12v feed through a switch , earthed through the points , and we had spark . but still no firey . popped the float bowl off . oh dear . ally carb that has been full of water for 17 millenia .bum . got carb off , and freed up the float needle , scraped out the white jelly/dust , we cleaned the main jet , whopped it all together , and after a slight linkage bend fest , cranked her and off she went ! hurrah ! very quiet running , however ,after a while would not start ,so i think the float or main jet have blocked again, but hey , very happy to get it working after years of sitting. bouyed up by this , after lazy sunday morning , i decided to have a little go at the pruning of the ginormous apple tree in the middle of the lawn/paddy field . yup , the ground is inches of water and rotten apples and smells like a cider brewery , lovely . out with the ladders , and bow saw , and finally finished this afternoon . it was quite scary up a bouncy 25 ft ladder , especially getting up it to tie it to the tree ... this particular side i managed to get the saw stuck in the cut , and had to go up with a screwdriver and hammer it into the slot , then cut it from the other side with another bow saw .. i think that ladder is for roofing, on the tiles, its very narrow and wobbly . a big problem was that the sections i cut off would not fall , just get snarled up ,so i got a cargo strap , and a heavy chisel on a length of rope , and swung those into the tree ,again and again ,until they caught and i could haul the section down . two last bits i wanted gone .. and it's done , that last one i had to cut at the top of the ladder standing backwards on it .i may have nightmares tonight . bit of clearing to do .. gabby, full of rabbit , watched , and sniggered, and i realised, i have a new flower this year , a carpet of yellow , very nice . regards robert

lawnflite part 2 , new idler pulley arrived ... 12 quid, not tooo bad , and while i wait for the throttle cable and bearings i thought i would rub down the bonnet a bit mask/prime and paint it silver again .. and masking off .. bit better . i decided to re activate the mini blade , its a bit cretacious , but a quick rub down fixed that .. now one phrase i have found myself using a fair bit on this project is "running to stand still" eg , fixing the astra , or the mower ,are jobs that don't actually move the house forwards , and i find a bit frustrating , always doing those jobs while actually thinking of the next hs thing to do . HOWEVER ! on saturday a major bit of progress occurred . i had 3 big window units on the front of the house , that were all blown and full of moisture , made anew , and mr cryo and i set too fitting them in the frames .i am extremely appreciative of the help , i would not have managed on my own ,but once we had worked out how the retaining strips worked , and got over the fact i had one unit made a bit too big , we got them all in , and what a tranformation .. from this .. to this .. the bottom window of the big window was only one sheet of glass , the inner having been smashed by previous owners , so it'll be a bit warmer now too . today i ordered the 6 upstairs pane , so they will soon be sparkling and see through too . regards robert
