Brushed SS304 stainless steel. Except for three cars plated in 24-karat gold. Painted DeLoreans do exist, although these were all painted after the cars were purchased from the factory. Several hundred DMCs were produced without stainless panels, for training workers, and are referred to as "black cars" or "mules", in reference to their black fiberglass panels instead of stainless, though these were never marketed. The stainless steel panels are fixed to a glass-reinforced plastic (Fibreglass) monocoque underbody. The underbody is affixed to a double-Y frame chassis, derived from the Lotus Esprit platform.

Blue Mk1 Escort registration TPK168M was stolen from the owners driveway in Fleet in Hampshire on Tuesday 23rd July 2013. The car is a completely standard 1100L & the owner's had it for 18 years. The owner was about to start restoration of the car, which was a none runner so would've needed to be trailered or hiabed away

Olympic blue 1969 2 door Mk1 Escort registration number SUM691G was stolen from a driveway in the early hours of Sunday 11th August 2013 of a house in Barnsley, Yorkshire. The car is fitted with 13" steels & 1300E/Mexico front wings & black vinyl roof. The vehicle retains its original 1100 engine. The car was usually kept in secure storage but was parked on the owners driveway as it was due to attend Ford Fair. The number plates were recovered a short distance from where the car had been parked up. The car has great sentimental value to the owner as it was his first car i the early 80s & bought it back in 2000. Restoration work has recently been completed. The wing badges shown in the picture weren't fitted when the vehicle was stolen.

Doubtful as thats a Cortina Lotus (Mk2 based) & the one stolen was a Lotus Cortina (Mk1).
Even if the ID was changed over (Which is classed as ringing), the reg would be too late for the mk1 shell
