the exhaust and the heat shields for said are all finished. i wanted to keep as much heat out of the cabin as posable. i learned the hard way what a hot exhaust right under the drives floor/seat can do on a very hot summers day. so ive made a full length shield which covers the top and right down the sides but is open at the bottom. the exhaust is twin 2&1/2" into 3" single. it sounds very good, especially at 6 grand. the heat shields are made from 1.30mm aluminum sheet that ive folded/welded into shape. all fits very nicely and its all got clearance. pipe before painting, heat shields laying on its back, paint drying. i plan to paint the tip mat black for now. i might make a squareish one (to match the cutout in the rear of the car) out of stainless at some point down the track. but the straight 3" pipe will do for now. my plan is to get everything under the car finished by the weekend. I'm going to get some parts HPC'ed so that might take a while but as long as I'm ready to bolt it all back in for the final time when it comes back il be happy. legalness here i come!!!!!!!! your pal, sheepers.

Superb! The engine looks new. Was it transferred from a newer Toyota ? Did you get a good price ? Cheers, Tim thanks, that engine is a 5M out of a 82ish CROWN. they did make 4M with the same rocker cover, very late model 65/75's had a 4M that looked like that. i sold it for 10K, which is a pretty good price. that car had all the best bits, disk brake diff, power steering, big front brakes, black interior, original tool kit and service manuals along with the original sales receipt listing the engine and chassis number. it was a unique car. a day does not pass when i don't regret selling it................ if you need any info on 60 series CROWNs don't hesitate to ask. your pal, sheepers.

exhaust is finished and its still WAY to loud. I'm going to have to look at a better/more expensive muffler. had a long day working on the lexus (curse word thing had a vacuum leak that took me all day to fix) but did manage to drive it for about 20 minutes. it all feels really good. the rear tyres are rubbing when you drive over massive craters in the road but i haven't put the bump stops in the back yet so when i do that it will sort that out. nothing else to report really. the car feels really good to drive. will be amazing when its had a wheel alignment and i get a bit of tuning in the suspension. ive not given it a good fang round a corner but the back does feel very different. hard to explain really, kind of lighter somehow? but only when your going over a bump? I'm going to drive it some more tomorrow because i can. i am currently having a hard earned beer. which i earned. feeling pretty good about it all at the mo.

cheers for the positive comments people!!!!!!
its been a long road to get this car going. its not finished yet but its very close to being legal. ive spent tonight making the exhaust. I'm up to the merge collector where the two banks go into one. so ive only got to make the 3"pipe from the middle off the car back. its basically straight with two 90 degree bends in it. should be finished tomorrow night. the plan is to drive it a bit on the weekend.

my mate Mike (with a TA27) came over today and helped out heaps. lots of stuff got done. the fuel filler neck (which is custom and didnt fit very well) got sorted along with all the fuel vapor hoses (now gone) throttle pedal is sorted (thanks mike), rear brakes all bled and checked. bonnet latch done (thanks Mike), ummm, diff and axels all back in and ready to go. its sitting on the floor right now and if i had a driveshaft i would be driving it!!!!! tomorrow ill do some more cosmetic type stuff and tidy up the gear stick hole. just do more stuff basically.
1 x driveshaft = driving RA28. sweet.

fuel tank is back in and fuel lines/filter are installed and finished. i have all weekend to work on this thing and i should be good to go (as long as the drive shaft guy comes through for me on Monday) on Tuesday night. theres heaps of little things i still have to do, like fit the hatch lock and latch and the bonnet catch. i reckon most of the weekend will be taken up doing these little bits and pieces. either or, it will be going real soon. i hope the fine days we've been having hold out, it would be nice to have some light for my first drive.........

right then! fuel pump. i liked the idea that Timbo had of using an in tank comminwhore pump. its got a surge tank built in and the pump is more than capable of suppling the 1UZ so despite the massive price tag i bought one.(second hand) today i set about making it fit into the tank. this is the result of todays efforts. i ran out of gas for the welder so its not finished yet but its pretty close. i still need to make a gasket, then i can cut the bolts to length. the pump has a level gauge on it too. the pump needs modding so i can run the return line into the top but the hard part is done. i can now finish the fuel lines and properly wire in the pump, the wires are there they just need to be connected. fuel tank need a coat of paint but thats no biggie. drive shaft is under way too, wont be long now....................... sheepers.

i now have a fully functioning handbrake. i got some R33 cables with some other parts i bought and they are a perfect length for my car. i spent quite a while welding brackets to the floor so i can get the cables right up tight to the floor so they aren't in the way of the zorst and whatnot. very happy with the result. not much to look at so no pics sorry but its just another thing that had to be done thats now crossed off the list. i also now have a full set of matching locks and starter tumbler which is good. i think ill turn my attention to the fuel pump/fuel tank problem tomorrow. cant finish the wheel/tyre thing because I'm trying to get some info for certification.
on we go!!!

got wheels!!! (finally) photos taken at night. take my word for it, it looks heaps better in real life. first we start out with the obligatory cellphone in the dish photo. then a quick comparison between a 15 x 8 and the 17 x 10. then we move onto gratuitous dish/wheel photos. i pushed the car out of the shed and washed it. first time its been washed in 6 years. this is a bit exaggerated because the rear steering bar isint in place and its running about 6 degrees of toe but you get the idea. i think ill have to change the front tyres because they have a huge lip protector on them and its making the fitment a bit tight but not really a big issue. ive not checked the rear travel yet (need the rear steering lock bar to do that properly) but ill get on to that this weekend. then it drive shaft and chocks away!!!!!! sheepers. better pics tomorrow (if i get home before it gets dark.....)

not much of an update really. ive been driving this car to work every day and it never misses a beat. i bought some new front brake rotors because the old ones cant handle the heat of a track day and they're a bit stuffed. if i stop working on my other celica for 5 minutes ill stick the new rotors on the car. ive got some camber tops too. i need to make a drawing of them before install them. its running 2 degrees neg on the front at the mo, ill leave it like that for street driving and maybe run 4 degrees at the track? dunno, ill have a play around with it.
