My friend was at a JEC or JDC meet years ago and won the competition for a few fast laps of the track in a Jaguar XJR. ?Silverstone? At the end of his experience he fell out of the car and puked his guts up. His chauffeur - Sir Stirling Moss.

Who couldn't love an Alpine on Steroids?! Anyway you've given me an easy link, Carroll Shelby could easily have his own thread; Here's one of Shelby's rides when he was a racing driver, an Aston Martin DBR1. This example incidentally became the most valuable British car ever when it sold for the equivalent of £17½M at auction.

The MP40 machine gun was turret equipment inside the Tiger tank. (OK, 'car' is a bit of a stretch!)

Thanks guys, feels like we're back on track. Trying and failing to wrap my head around a small V16 engine and the noise it must make. A cool one! Did I mention it was supercharged and red lined at 12,000rpm?

BRM V16. Fangio described it as the best F1 car ever, Moss described it as undoubtedly the worst car he'd ever driven. Unbelievably this 600bhp V16 engine had a displacement of only 1.5 litres.

2019 price: As is; £8K-£12K, not enough to give an accurate guesstimate. Restored £20K to £40K depending on quality of restoration and spec.

It was only something the peasants had to deal with though, if you’d really made it you had an AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC ONE! And if you were pretending you'd made it you installed an aftermarket one with an 'up / down' switch under the dash.

My mate was working at a rural garage in the late 80's, one of the elderly locals was regularly bringing in her Vanden Plas 1300 automatic chapel chariot with sooted up plugs. He'd adjusted the mixture on his Krypton tuner several times and knew that was OK. On one visit he noticed the choke was out with her handbag dangling off it, when questioned she had no knowledge of a choke or its intended use but she was happy to demonstrate her factory-fitted pull out handbag peg.

Anybody hear about the old dear in the states with a genuine AC Cobra? Apparently she knew it needed a service when the 50-70 time was slower......😆 I tried to find this clip on youtube to no avail, I remember watching this many years ago, she'd kept her husband's (?) Shelby Cobra after he died. I think what she used to do was to bring the car to a stop on a straight road then floor it, I think she said " I count to 10 and if it's not doing 100mph I take it in for a tune up."

I lived near a village named Miskin years ago, one of the villagers was an elderly recluse nicknamed 'the Prof' whose everyday runabout was a Triumph Stag. He died and the estate was being administered by a local solicitors, in his garage they discovered a semi restored early Lagonda tourer and in his front yard shielded from view by the hedge was a pre-war MG saloon with a prototype engine which hadn't made it into production.

I'm not a big person but I think I would struggle to squeeze one out in that throne room! I don't imagine shaving is too straightforward either!

I was hoping someone would reboot this thread as it's too good to lose, your links are always very well thought out. I'm going to stick with Lincoln as well as cars with links to Presidents and long cars. SS-100-X, all 255", (21'3" / 6.5M).

Maybe its just me but that looks like it would be a pig to get in and out of somehow. It would force you to enter it sideways and your head would have to be prematurely low. It's like that Japanese hole in the wall game....you'd have to assume the sitting position shortly before arriving at the opened door space. And it also looks like you'd be driving with your knees tucked under your chin and your forehead on the windscreen, like my wife*. You wouldn't do well with this if you were morbidly obese or much taller than about 5'8"!
