Another thing to remember, grifterkid, is to try to develop a thick skin. This is a good example: As mentioned elsewhere above, re-writing a parts list is not the making of a good article. It is a feature I especially despise in the current Retro Cars mag - a very long article of what is listed in the little spec box to the side. Word for word. Find the story behind the car, or the design of it, or how the owner found it. Anything other than "then Dave paid SuperWorx Garage to fit the bigger turbo. Then he bought the wheels off ebay. Then he fitted them" come on, I was writing better stuff than that when I was 12 (actually, that's true, I was published at 8y/o lol). Find the human interest, find the USP of the story, find a reason why this story is worth paying to read (from customers POV). When you put a lot of time, effort and care into your work, 'despise' is a difficult word to hear. And being told you write like a twelve year-old is hurtful. You've just got to bear in mind that as long as you're happy with your work, and your editor is happy (and continues to pay you, and commission further work!), and this combines with reader feedback in which the positive overwhelms the negative, you're probably doing something right. You can't please all of the people all of the time. Unfortunately, my view on life - that you only live once, you might as well enjoy yourself, and there's enough negativity as it is without actively seeking to create more of it - is not shared by everybody. That's just life. I find particularly with this forum that there are certain members - surprisingskoda, fogey, various others - who've taken against me personally for some reason, and like to snipe at me at any given opportunity. That's why I don't come on here much these days. Criticism I can deal with, bullying not so much. But like I say, thick skin, positive attitude. Not really sure what I've done to upset dbizzle - but let's keep this thread helpful to the OP shall we rather than turning it into a platform to vent personal frustrations

Have contributed to: Practical Classics Car Mechanics Classics (this started as Retro Classics - not to be confused with Retro Cars - then became 'Classics' and is now known as ' Classics Monthly') I concentrated on the tech 'how to' side of things. I figured that it was costly and time consuming for the publishing houses to prepare this sort of feature themselves. The first feature I just sent unsolicited to Practical Classics (covered cleaning and detailing the engine bay of an old Morris 1100) and they used it and asked for more, which I supplied over a period of about 2 years (this was the mid 1990s) Did the same with Car Mechanics (first feature was fitting a new front panel to a Metro, the second, new lower door skins to a Sierra) - probably did about 25 - 30 pieces for them in all. When Retro Classics appeared I did the same and contributed on a regular basis from 1997 - 2000/2001. If you do it this way, just make sure that you adapt your style to suit the mag you're writing for - if something lands on the editor's desk when he's got pages to fill you might strike lucky. Would I go back to it? No, never - rates have dropped and in some cases you can wait months to be paid. When I was doing it I already had my own business to supply my 'bread and butter' so everything I got from freelancing was 'extra'.

You can't beat a well rodded 100E - and that's gotta be one of the best.

The SAE is not an indication of how 'thick' or 'thin' an oil is, it's an indication of it's 'propensity to flow' at certain temperatures .. .
. . . with apologies for being pedantic . . .

Hi Guys I've been offered an eclat cheap as chips because they're not the most desirable model! Is there anything I could do to it to make it look cool? Anyone got anything other than google image results? Jordan Look after it - they are cheap now, but I reckon their day will come . . .

Can anyone here confirm or positively discount the rumour on another forum that 3 bods from VOSA were at Stoneleigh with some hand held 'gizmo' checking registrations against their database?

Quote: 'Even managed to reset the speedo to read the same mileage!.' Is this the first time in history that a car has been clocked to show the CORRECT mileage?? Looking good.

Doesn't look as good as the Jag it's based on, or as good as the Aston Martin it wants to be, which begs the question, 'Why?'
On a positive note, it does look well crafted and finished.

If this is true it's bad news. The trade off will be the eventual restricted use of vehicles over 40 years old. This concession has just brought that scenario a big step closer.

I have no idea whether working late on my cars annoys the neighbours - they don't talk to me . . .
Seriously, in residential areas you have to be considerate - grinding, revving after dark (other than in the privacy of your bedroom . . .) is a no no.

Most seem to agree that the 600 was a much better car than Rover's flagship of the time, the 800.

Further digging has revealed that this 100E runs a Lotus Twin Cam and that it was featured in Classic Ford Mag at some stage . . . . anyone got a copy to scan?
