Interesting - I've always 'overlooked' the 190, so perhaps I'll investigate further . . .

It seems to be a Mercedes thing, I thought there was something wrong with my 190 until I drove some other MBs Never driven a 190, but have thought about buying - do thay have a similar 'feel' to the bigger models?

Did the rounds a few years back and if I remember correctly was proved to be a hoax in that everyone concerned knew the cars were there - the barn find story was just an inventive bit of marketing as all the cars were going for auction.
Still great pics to look at and wouldn't we all love to make a real 'barn' discovery like that.

Yep, hear what you're saying, decent W123 prices are certainly on the up. A well sorted one is nice enough to drive (decent tyres make a big difference) - though, like the W124, the steering can be somewhat, er, vague!

Personally I'd go for the the earlier W123 series in 230 guise - these were much better cars in nearly every respect IMHO. The W124 was introduced at a time when Mercedes 'lost their way' somewhat, and build quality suffered.

PITA re City Link, especially during the busiest parcel time of the year. Always happy with Royal Mail and Parcel Force and use them frequently, and the self employed Yodel driver in this area is a diamond - goes out of his way to deliver when I'm most likey to be at home and has even flagged me down when I'm out and about to give me my parcel.

This morning first light laying back on cold concrete tightening up exhaust after test run / painting exposed pipes with heat resistant paint / another test run to Brighton and then final retighten , one more coat of paint thats it hopefully for 2014 on the concrete then in workshop painting brackets. I also tend to think the job through in advance and take extra tools , washers , bolts , brackets if needed in a tray to save getting up. Had many conversations with passers by lying on the floor under car. Rain well have been underneath before now with tarpaulin over my legs.Decided i must keep at it cos this hobby is responsible for my sanity as i look around the local Asda and the people all following each other in this xmas siege game. Think you just hit the nail on the head - in spite of the physical difficulties, playing around with cars certainly helps one to occupy the mind and to maintain sanity.

At 56 I hope to continue playing with cars for a fair few years yet - If all the projects in my head are ever to come to life I'm gonna have to live for at least another 80 years . . . In the meantime the fact that I now have to wear glasses in the garage is the biggest pain - they steam up in the cold, and fall off when I lay upside down with a welding gun in my hand.
