Bit of a feeler thread! '91 Toyota Celica GT4 Wide Body Import - 2ltr Turbo, 4wd Well I have only owned it for about 3 weeks and it now has a full 12 months mot and is looking hard as nails in matt black, with all the minor rust and dents eradicated. But after driving it around today and I can't help but feel its a little bit big for work and I think the fuel economy isn't going to do me any favours so will probably look at changing it in a month or so. The reason I bought it is because it came at the right price and I saw the potential undeneath all the dirt and grime after standing for 5 years! Willing to swap it for something else smaller both in size and cc!! Readers ride thread here, retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=60767&page=1

After posting a thread in the general board on whether or not I should buy it, I decided to take a gamble and go for it. Story is, spotted it on a drive looking very sorry for itself, covered in moss, 4 flat tyres - turns out it has been stood for 4-5yrs......but now £500 later and its mine..... Its a '91 Toyota Celica GT4 turbo import so its a widebody version, 127km on the clock so that about 70k in miles? and was imported in '98. Extra's include, full stainless exhaust & a nice Momo steering wheel that looks to be a factory extra as its stamped with toyota.... Known issues, Needs a new radiator, some rot on the p/side door but very minimal Both the sides of the car could do with being blown in as its weathered really badly after being stood for so long 4x new tyres as all the sidewalls are cracked Brakes all round to be overhauled, hoping the calipers/discs will all free off/clean up ok Drain the fuel out thats in it!! really don't fancy trying to start it with potentially 5yr old fuel..... Now some pics,

I've used retro's for trackdays and its a really good experience, go for it! just make sure you do all your usual checks (just like you do before a long trip) before you hit the track and as long as your cars mechanically sound you should have no problems. Like phoenixescort said its not all about speed, i have passed some cars that on paper should be flying around the track but its all down to the driver.....and i think its good to go round in something a little bit slower as its enables to concentrate on gaining speed in other areas i.e. corners!! there are so many cars i come accross that rely on top end speed on the straights and then crawl through the bends. Some pic's, My old Mk2 Golf GTI 8v at donington, also went round the 'ring in it aswell! My MGB at donington,

Haggis, very interested but only issue is distance, based in the west mids - my v8 mgb (in sig) is running a 3.5 but i'm after a 3.9 with injection to upgrade it.
Any ideas on the mileage on either of those? what do they look like under the rocker covers? sludged up or fairly clean? I've never couriered anything this size, would you be able to put one on a pallet for collection?
Sorry for all the questions - email me if you prefer gavin_jewkes@yahoo.co.uk

My Celica GT4 project I have picked up has a 1/4 tank of petrol but its been in there for 5 yrs......so i'm guessing it's a big no no to try starting it with that? or could I put some fresh fuel in and mix it with the bad?
Tried to siphon it out today but it must have an anti siphon device as I can't get the hose into the tank.....
Any advice would be great as i'd like to try and get it started tomorrow....

Is that yours carl? what size rims are you running?
Will do an update tomorrow, today has been a productive day - attacked it with a jet wash, rad removed, bodywork being sorted - rust and dents being removed....photo's to follow.
I need a set tyres so i'm going to go for an alloy wheel & tyre package - just need to choose some rims any ideas?

Well had another look at this yesterday and i'm going to go for it, only known problem is leak from the right handside of the radiator so hopefully a hose, worst case scenario a new rad (£58 on ebay). Bodywork wise, only rot is contained to the p/side door rest the car looks solid but paintwork is knackered loads of lacquer peel so it will be turning satin black until it gets a full repaint. Hopefully picking it up on Thursday so keep an eye out for a new readers rides thread, planning to get it on the road within a couple of weeks and then a trip to the nurburgring, its going to be my £400 ring car if all goes to plan

Whilst out and about working yesterday i was spotted a 'j' plated Toyota Celica GT4 Turbo on a driveway that looked to have been standing a while (covered in moss and 4 flat tyres!). So i enquired about it and its simply been parked up for 2 years and not used.
He then said i could take it away for £400 - now i'm very tempted but not that clued up about them. Only experience i have of them is going round the nurburgring in one last year and i was very impressed.
He has told me a its a widebody import and runns at around 239bhp - interior is very tidy, paint looks a bit tired and there some rot on the p/side door.
Is it worth a punt for £400? the guys seems genuine enough......could it be broken for parts to get my cash back if turns out to be a dog?
I've never gone japanese before.....
