I don't usually get involved in what car threads but this one has really grated me. Firstly, why on earth would anyone want a manual GT car? A GT car is for eating up the miles between distant places in complete comfort. Some of them can do justice to a windy road but generally speaking the point of GT'ing is to drive quickly in a straight line. If you want to blast B roads, you don't want a fat GT car and you need to ditch the need for plush comfort. Secondly, drawing up an extensive list to pin point your perfect car is like doing the same for the perfect woman, or the perfect house, or the perfect job. It's pointless. The reason we love things is because they're perfectly imperfect. All you will achieve by ticking every box is finding a car that's so 'right' it's boring. You've made sure it can't challenge you. My perfect car on paper is a modern BMW 6 series. It ticks every box in my long list of demands. So much so that several years back I took out a stonking loan and bought one. A man who spends £500 tops on his toys suddenly blows 20 large. After 6 months I couldn't bare it anymore - it never once gave me that fizzle of excitement. I never once drove it for the fun of driving. The car did everything it needed to but was cold. I learnt that character in a car doesn't come from what boxes it ticks. My 406 Coupe of 10 years is nothing like a 645. It's not fast, it's not that plush and to 'fix' certain unfixable things I've had to remove the bulbs telling me they're broken. If I give her hell, she wildly fishtail in an uncontrollable fit of under-over-everywhere-steer. But EVERYTIME, without fail, I go to get in it I think "curse word me that's a pretty car I drive". And whether I'm in it 5 hours or 15 hours, I don't get out feeling twice my age. Parts are reasonable, I can afford to run it and I'm a rare sight without drawing attention to myself. It's flawed but I love it. Half the cars recommended on here I have or had. Supra's, 300ZX's, Jags, 8 series, old muscle cars etc. They're all brilliant suggestions. You won't find your dream car making lists and dismissing everything that's close. You find it by going out, driving stuff and bidding blind on Ebay. You fall in love with a car because of the crazy adventures you do in it, the situations it gets you out of (or puts you in) and how it makes you feel behind the wheel. Stop shooting down peoples suggestions because a box isn't ticked. Pick one and try it - you might like it. Great post....pretty much nailed it.....thread may as well be closed after that haha

Firstly, why on earth would anyone want a manual GT car? Basically stated this earlier as it didn't make much sense to me neither.....especially as the op kept stating Auto's would give him so much more options :/

Not crazy.....each to their own but you'd probably be better being more specific with what you're after....or not after I'll leave this here, ticks lots of boxes but probably too new for you,but who knows.... Is this an Acura/Honda? Yes, looks pretty new. Nissan 350 GT

Ok, another style cue. What I'm looking for is something that has a foot in Mad Max and another in 007. As far away as possible from the Ricer Fast and Furious look. ....yet the Supra and 3000gt were considered....hence the suggestions. Mad Max meets 007, be interesting to see what you think fits that bill. If you're looking for a cruiser, I'd say having an auto isn't a big deal, drop the manual requirement and it'd be a lot easier for you to find something you like.

I've owned one and the 2+2 LWB Zed definitely feels/drives and looks like a GT as opposed to a sports car. The one I owned was a 2 seater SWB and still felt more like a GT than a sports car, awesome cruisers.
Ticks boxes 1-14, if you haven't, go see one in the flesh a grab a test drive.

Well not much to update with the 5, had an RTC last Sunday evening in the WD21 which rather hurt! Been off work this week so had a crack at spray painting. Got quoted £70-80 to have my vented headlight cover professionally sprayed(the guy does amazing work) but I figured the 5 is my project so it's a good time to have a go at it myself. I used rattle cans and the result is okay, could've been better but hey practice makes perfect right? Now just to decide whether to attempt my ducktail boot lid and racing beat rear bumper...... The Vented headlight cover fitted, excuse dirty car My WD21 after having someone pull across my path.... The offending DS3..... Luckily neither I nor the other driver were seriously injured....

Well, little update. Goodish day today, took a little trip down to Cleverley repaired cars so that they kindly pop my new mx5parts exhaust on for me....that was the good bit and it is a very good bit as it sounds lovely with my decat and burbles and pops which is pretty nice. Some pics.... The not so good bit is whilst I nipped off to grab a Racing beat rear bumper from Ipswich, my 5 was taken for a test drive after the fitting of the exhaust by an employee and one of my new Rota's was scuffed. They were extremely apologetic and straight away accepted responsibility and after a call and visit to a body shop locally, it was decided a new alloy would be just as cost effective. So all in all not to bothered as they were great and already have had an email updating me on the situation. Highly recommend them to anyone with a 5.

How much for the cat bypass? Weren't the 1.6 mk1's 370mm? I could be wrong due to my novice knowledge ha! Is it stainless steel? I agree re the brakes,I think for now as just road use, decent pads/fluid/braided hoses and maybe one of those brake servo thingymebobs? oh and a good calliper service.... Cats are 375,440 and 475 mm, the one i have is a 375mm straight through steel pipe, as i say it makes the car a wee bit loud,it's yours if you want to pay the postage or can do pony express or live close to me or somehwere near my office in Whitechapel. i cant remember what the cut off date is for having a Cat for the MOT or as its an import if it needs one. Even for track use you will find that the OEM brakes are well up to the job if your car is a 1600 the 1800 swap is just a caliper bracket, new pads and discs, Jass perfrormance do a brake stopper that prevents firewall flex. Its hardly worth servicing the calipers if they become sticky, lots of places on Ebay do reconned ones that are cheaper than the sum of the service bits just remember when you do the rears that the calipers have a little allen bolt adjuster that hides under a bolt to wind the piston in and out. Think that sounds like the way to go, it is a 1600 so upgrading to the 1800 brakes and a brake stopper will be good enough for my needs. Think the cut off is '93, went under her yesterday with a tape and she is catless already lol didn't even notice when she was on the ramps! d'oh! Thanks for the offer though, really appreciated!

What fitment are those ROTAs? I'm on the look out for some new wheels as I've bought the Freaky Parts BBK and my current wheels don't clear the callipers. They look like they might! My rota's are 15x8 ET20, they're a great fit bang on flush with the arches.

I have a 375mm cat bypass in the garage if you want it be warned it makes it loud. The brakes on the 5 are pretty good as standard just a half decent set of pads and some decent fluid should see you right,if you want b-i-g brakes Freaky parts do a kit that uses Corrado discs or use 2.5 sport brakes.

As per the title, wheels just removed from my MX5 mk1 S-Spec. Loads of life left in the tyres. One alloy has some curbing, see pic. The rest are in good nick. Courier can be arranged for an extra £30.
