I love a nice R8, I'm looking forward to seeing this one getting built. But I'm also a little sad I don't get to see what you could do with a R4... it'll happen one day. I've been thinking about it for so long its already planned out. It would have an Energy engine swap, low on R5 alpine turbo alloys. Early metal grill. Clean and simple.

Hi, my names Adey and I have a bit of a problem with old rusty Renaults. You my remember me from such Retro Builds as The Renault 5 Campus..... Summer Boostings. A C1J turbo swapped base model r5 (sold to fund the next car) The 1978 Renault 12 Frog Dog, Definitely slow slight low (sold to help fund a wedding) And one of my Favourites, The 1957 "The Dope" Dauphine (sold due to ill health) So its been just over 2 years since I've had something retro to tinker with. I had a pretty big operation 2 years back and ended up selling the Dope to fund life whilst off work. It was needed, and for a long while after I wouldn't have even been able to drive the thing. It was a needs must decision, and I do miss the car so I have been browsing for something to fill the gap. I had actually been holding out for an R4, nothing had popped up over the last few months though.... Browsing FB marketplace last week I noticed a Renault R8 S had appeared. I actually sent the link to a friend of mine who already had one, just to show him more than anything. The next day I passed on some contact details from the seller to said friend... and then a few hours later I had a text "do you want to buy an 8?..." Bit of a back story, Paul has owned the 8 he has for probably 12 years+ I've know of the car all along and have always coveted it. This year I had actually agreed to work on the car to get it back up and running and useable on the road as it had been passed around a bit. I love to tinker anyway and as he's a mate Id have got it going with the agreement I could use it when I wanted. Generally the price of them and rarity had kept them out for reach and off the current radar. (I did have a 1963 yellow R8 briefly but it was a total tea bag)Anyway, Paul had had a chat with the current owner of the 8S and now had no need for the old 8. I took a look at it on Saturday, in a 2 birds one stone type setup, and after viewing then took Paul to collect his new 8S. A price was agreed and now all that is left to sort is transporting it home. She comes with already banded steels, a whole host of spare bits that have been collected over the years and a fair amount of work to be done. None of that phases me though, I'm very much looking forward to getting my hands dirty again and getting another rusty Renault back on the road (probably with very little suspension travel and a huge drop in ride height ) Let me show you "Dolly" (not sure why its called Dolly but that's what Pauls wife has called it for all the time they have had it) Thanks for reading

So some may have seen the for sale advert, I messed about a bit but ended up making the decision to let her go. was a tough one but it made sense for me an the family going forward for the next few month whilst dealing with some health issues. The new owner has promised to look after her and the planned engine conversion sounds awesome Don't worry ill be back with something else next year all being well, tempted by a cheap mk1 twingo to go along side my modern one but we will see how life pans out first. On a side note c1jake sorted me with an epic print of it. A great tribute to frame and hang somewhere in my home. To the car that kept me sane through the covid crisis

Good luck with the sale , really really really wish i was in a position to buy this . 👍 Thanks buddy, really wish I wasn't in a position where I was having to consider selling it. I'm actually awaiting a decent sized operation with an anticipated 3 to 6 months recovery. The sale of one of the cars is to make sure me and the family are covered a little whilst I'm not turning up to work and earning unfortunately

Renault Dauphine 1957 “The Dope” Circumstances have dictated that I really need to sell one of my cars, I’m very much torn as to which one as they are both epic and cool in their own way, the Twingo is more viable to keep as it is a daily already and the Dope is an as and when car. Either way I am writing an advert for both. Please don't be too annoyed if I get cold feet and you see this advert disappear. So you want to be super cool, yet unique and different, look no further than here! For sale is my 1957 Renault Dauphine, affectionately known as The Dope. The coolest and most unique car I have ever owned/built, I very much doubt I will be able to replace her in the future and I'm actually very sad to be writing this. Originally brought over to the UK about 6 years ago I registered her through the DVLA with the help of the Renault Classic Car Club. After a few months of back and forth with them she was issued an age related plate. I got her to run and drive and sorted some of the electrics and then sold her to an absolute gent called Simon, he replaced loads of metal and got her up to a road worthy standard. After 3 years he decided to sell her on and gave me first dibs, I promptly brought her home. Since then I have completed more work on her, majorly the old 845cc and 3 speed gearbox were removed and replaced with a much more user friendly and safer to drive 1108cc engine and 4 speed gearbox, giving more hp and torque than the original Gordini (hot) version. This along with a 12v conversion, variable speed wipers, some rewiring and the addition of a diesel heater has made her a very useable running resto retro/classic. She’s looks very low though rarely catches anything and actually drives very well and smoothly. Suspension is basic with chopped rear springs and the front running on conical/tapered bump stops, good enough for the wife to get in and not complain too much so I take that as a pass for comfort. She’s rough and ready but perfect in my eyes, full of charm and covered in natural patina. Solid underneath and can be used almost any time you choose. I’ve even taken her for a run in the snow! I’m not sure what else to say about her, some of you will just get it, this is your type of car, some of you won’t. Tax and MOT exempt, insurance for myself is around £100 for the year including commuting (yes I use her for the 35+mile commute with no issues). This is a car you can use and enjoy not constantly fix and have to repair. The only things I would change going forward would be to add a carb with a choke so cold starting is a little better and I would definitely band the rear wheels to fill the arches a touch, door seals to help with water ingress would also be a good addition. The steering is a little noisy after being sat but his is an old school setup and has a service schedule for greasing all the components every few hundred miles. These are/were on my to-do list for the future. I am located near Gloucester and looking for offers around £7000. If you are genuinely interested drop me a pm and we can discuss things further.

Trimmed the front legs to drop it closer to the roof as it had some rear rake going on. Not that noticeable but bugged me a little.
