I might be being blind but ive seen no updates for this event, a few for the weekender. I know were are amidst a pandemic but my fingers and toes were very tightly crossed this would potentially still be on?
Shielding looks to be ending for those most at risk end of July and there will be possibly a massive ramp up of everything over the next few weeks. Is it still on the cards or is it likely to be moved/dropped from the roster?
Selfishly its the one big show i tend to get to in a year, missed it last year due to a stag so really clucking to get back. That and ive been pretty much locked up for 3 months solid, would be nice to see some people and good metal.

One stripped down 6v starter. Hopefully the 12v starter I've got on the way will be compatible as suggested.

Turns out you need a good earth to get the starter to spin... 🤦🏻♂️
But no amount of adjustments will allow it to mesh nicely, knew it might go that way any way. So I'm now trying to find a 12v starter motor. Strangely though a chap posted on my thread on a French forum suggesting the 12v head on the 6v motor, I've sent a few messages using my best google translated french as I also found another person who did it in the opposite direction, 6v head on a 12 motor, so there may still be a chance I can stay 6v. All of this is dependant on parts getting found in peoples garages and delivery so I'm now pretty much stopped for the moment. Theres a few small bits I can do but nothing major.

That reminds me my R8 still had a hand crank with a hole in the rear bumper, that used to confuse people but did come in handy once in a while. ive never had to try it tbh, i do have the handle in its holder under the bonnet though. hmmmmm can i bin off the starter and go straight to the old school hand cranking

Adey Is this engine in the same family of Renault engines that was used in the Lotus Europa's? I don't know much about the Renault engines. I'm not sure tbh, i will have a look into it.

Last night i extended some of the wiring and reconnected everything back up. The starter is a 6v 2 bolt type and the gearbox is for a 3 bolt 12v starter. Not good at all as i really wanted to stay 6v. The 2 outside bolts in the gearbox seem to match the 6v starter but the starter doesn't fully engage with the box and the gear pushes on the starter. I tired to be cheeky and put some spacers between the starter and gearbox but it either doesn't engage and spins or clicks and sounds like it engages but doesn't turn the engine. The gearbox is in neutral and i can turn the engine freely with a short bar on the hand start cog. That leads me to believe the starter either has the wrong gear on it, is goosed (but spins fine) or its just an alignment issue....
Ive been reading up on some french forums and the normal c series alternators seem to be very easily adapted for fitment on my block. But converting to 12v gives me more work to do and sorting more electrics out and i dislike auto electrics a lot.

Cheers guys, gtviva the rear probably can be removed but mines had some repair and i think its tacked/welded on the one side. To be honest id thought about removing it previously but when it came to actually doing the job i totally forgot about it...... Adjusted the wiring and connected everything up last night, i also tried fitting the starter motor with a little spacer to help it line up with the flywheel. I think the battery may of been low from sitting for a few weeks but it wouldnt turn the engine. I will give it some more investigation before i condemn it and go down the 12v conversion route with the correct starter motor. One of the things i like about the car is the fact its on 6v still. Would be a shame to loose it though i would gain more from swapping over.

Bit late to the party but fiesta (mk3?) engine mounts are handy things. Used them as transmission mounts on my samurai. are these the type you meant? they look like they could of worked, i will keep them in the memory bank

Are the Landrover ones a no go Adey? Land rover mounts are in there on the sides of the gearbox, great idea thanks They wouldnt be suitable as the rear items though, they mount differently. ill try and get a pic of how they sit.

they arnt really in shear, theres a top mount from which the gearbox is suspended, these look to more stop side to side movement. 4 bolts to change them though so nothing major.
