Porsche I seem to get them too often and it's why I have far too many vehicles! Another reason why my Porsche has been pushed unfairly to one side. tdk The one I was shown yesterday and was mentioned above didn't look too bad at all, especially for the money. If you think you would be remotely interested drop me a PM and I can chase some details for you and get some photos. If I didn't have my 944, I probably would have had it. YHM

I am sooo missing my 968 Sport. Couldn't afford to buy another, though.
If anyone comes across a tidy(ish) 924 please drop me a line. I can't seem to spot anything suitable. Early manual 2.0 in a suitably seventies paint would be lovely. I can't seem to find one!

.....and MK3 Escorts seem to be gaining a following. I owned both back in the day and the Astra was always way better ( my opinion only) in every department. Even the 1.3s were no slouches and would be totally capable in todays traffic. Maybe we have to salute or blame the marketing of the day for making Fords more desirable than Vauxhalls which has followed through to the Classic scene, to a greater degree. I admit it, I like Vectras. agree, although a sporting mk3 escort will be clear 10k ontop of equivalent spec/age astra. i don't personally think its about age at all If I live to be a hundred and fifty years old, I will never ever understand why anyone thinks a MK3 Escort is remotely interesting, valuable or cool. I appreciate that's against this site's ethos so I'll shut my cakehole now. Vectras? There's some BTCC associated cool but I think we're a decade or more before they're 'retro'. The preceding Cavalier isn't that special yet either (and I like them too, for the record).

That was like watching a flea. One second it's there, the next - *ping* and it's gone.
Great achievement.

Looks interesting. I just sold my 968 and have been contemplating buying it's Daddy. That one, though, just looks like trouble from the very first pic! Can't explain why, it just looks like trouble. I hope I am wrong and wish you good luck with the resto. What are the inner sills like? Where are the original wheels? My first thought was that it was going to be a rough one, but my mate assured me it wasn't. I was home for 2 days there on the weekend and it is better than you would expect! There is no rust worth talking about on this car at all! I had a good check! The wheels on it are stinking looking in photos, not the worst in the flesh but will be getting changed once I have all the mechanicals and mot out of the way. What 968 did you have? Love them! Too pricey for me though! Sounds good. I had a 968 Sport, sold to fund a divorce, prices had gone utterly mental in the 3ish years I owned it - a good time to cash out. It's a "long termer" in GT Porsche mag who I occasionally write for. Info here; www.motorpunk.co.uk/fleet/my-porsche-968-sport/

My MK1 MX-5 has been insured for under £100, F/C, for as long as I can remember. I used to use Adrian Flux until their customer service went down the pan, now with Bridle, paying somthing like £95 for a £1500 car, garaged, no mods, 5k miles PA. I have a clean licence and one other car, nice postcode yadda yadda. Get out there and haggle, man

Not sure if I mentioned it, but I wrote and presented a little film about the DGR for Motors TV. I've uploaded to YouTube for anyone interested;

My first car! A 4 door 1.2 litre Chevette L in regatta blue. Related to lots of other GM stuff of the same era, Holden Gemini and Piazza, for example. See here. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_T_platform_(1973)Engine, as I recall, was dead tough but gutless, 1.2 (or maybe 1.3) litre with a single carb. Mine had a gear-ring on the starter fail but was surprisingly tough and didn't rust much either. Pretty uninspiring in standard form, I always wanted an HSR of course. What do you want to know?

I must confess that I have been looking for some months at Mx5s, every one I've seen has had rot to some degree, or they're a huge price. So I'm buying a new motorcycle instead! Almost totally impossible to find one that hasn't had rust repairs. As mentioned above, MK2s and later are often worse than MK1s. My own car, inner wing repairs;

Now i've got 5 minutes i'll try and do a full list for the MK1.. All factory finished MK 1's have textured stonechip right up to the swage line on the doors from the bottom of the sills.This upper area is body colour on all,but the lower sill area can be black or body colour depending on the cars base colour. Classic Red - black sills Chaste White- black sills Mariner Blue- almost always black sills but believed to be a small number with body colour from the factory. Sunburst Yellow- black sills Silver Stone - black sills Sparkle Green-black or dark grey sills Crystal White-black sills Laguna Blue-black sills Montego Blue- body colour sills Twilight Blue- body colour sills Neo Green - body colour sills Vin Rouge Mica- body colour sills Satellite Blue-body colour sills Brilliant Black- body colour sills Interesting! Can you state your source for this? I ask because I've got (just about) the oldest UK MK1 on the road, in Silver Stone, and (before I had it restored) the sill paint was original but silver and not black. My resto thread here.

Next book well underway. A much meatier piece of work, but with the same levels of twaddle, you'll be pleased to hear. I'm gobsmacked at how well "confessions from quality control" has done.
