I love depreciation. It means I can pick up something interesting that I could not have afforded new for a fraction of the original windscreen price. The almost-cool classic, the not-that-quick sportscar and the ignore-the-bills beauty. I call these pocketmoney exotics - cars that you can buy for 5% (or less) of their original price.
I'm thinking Jaguar XJ6, Range Rover P38, tatty old Maseratis, Renault Safranes, Bentley Eights,... I'm sure I've missed loads. What others qualify?
Anyone here own one that qualifies for this theoretical club? I'm interested in real world experiences from like minded motoring masochists...

Harris is a creepy freak, apart from him it was decent enough Says the person with a paedo-bear thing in their signature! Have you met Harris? I have. He's a really, really nice bloke.

Please don't give up - if you can solve BL wiring cack in such an old car then you can solve anything. Good luck, we're all behind you!

Totally disagree! Where on earth did you go to miss the beauty of Northern Italy?! Southern Germany, in particular, is also fantastic. Drive from Val di fassa to Austria, I wasn't that impressed. As for Germany, flat, dull, uninspiring. Bavarian Alps, Black Forest, Eifel Hills, you did well to find a route home from Austria that was flat, dull and uninspiring! I'f you drove back from Austria through Germany I guess you used the A7 or A8 Autobahn, which isn't exactly ther Nurburgring (oh, did I mention that place?) but is still great to drive and unrestricted in most parts. Actually, I wrote a chapter in my latest book about the A8!

Southern Germany, in particular, is also fantastic. Especially Dresden after we gave them scope to rebuild it... Glad you're not a bomb aimer. Dresden is in Eastern Germany, not Southern Germany.

Italy isn't particularly nice in the north. Germany isn't worth going through at all imho Totally disagree! Where on earth did you go to miss the beauty of Northern Italy?! Southern Germany, in particular, is also fantastic.

I enjoyed my E39 528i, but my E34 525i was even nicer.

This was a cheap and nasty car, but drove really really nicely. Far better than you'd expect.

Oh, we're playing that game, are we? Ghost is better to drive though. Ghost beats Phantom every time. I don't care if it's a 7-Series underneath. I just see a BMW. Anyway, ghost you say? Yes great to drive, here's the prototype black edition Ghost, most satisfying. (I suspect I am going to get banned for this blatant example of bell-endery)

Nicest? This. DSC_6530 by dbizzle_, on Flickr Of course, the problem with driving something like that, in the certain knowledge that you would never be able to afford one, is that it makes every car you drive thereafter seem that little bit worse.
ok - YOU win at this game lol. Gorgeous! Looks like it was honed from a solid lump of granite. Awesome.
Ah, the cheapo version. I think I win at this game, here's "mine", note the long wheelbase, you plebs; Actually, it's not the nicest thing I've ever driven, but you'll all swear at me if I show you so I'll keep schtum

Daughter's boyfriend's car to be sold. Has 1 month MOT, drives nicely and in good shape apart from a cracked windscreen. c.120k miles, 5 door, white, 1.4 litre. Has had recent tyres, new battery, new exhaust, new clutch and (IIRC) suspension bushes and/or springs. Totally standard and has been a great first car, he's a sensible lad and is now upgrading to something new. No rust issues I'm aware of, it looks nice and clean, has just the usual wear and tear expected with the age. Has electric windows, I'm not sure of the trim spec.
Any serious offer considered, it must go, looking for around £250. Don't message me, it's not my car. Ta.

This. Had it for a few days to make a film. Fat, unreliable and vulgar. Glad to give it back. So how do you go on with this? I assume that whoever lends the motor expects it to be waxed lyrical about. So how do you say, "Actually, it's a dog." and still hope to get more in the future? I can see how the big boys get away with it, they're big, but what about you guys? We are the "big boys" Actually, I try not to talk about the car when writing/filming. To me, modern cars are boring - it's the engineering, the people and the adventures which appeal to me.

Dad wasn't (still isn't) into cars at all. A long history of Cortinas, then a few VWs, a Vectra then onto Mondeos. All humdrum stuff. He'll look at my car(s) now and ask what MPG it does and can you fit a roofrack.

No worries. It's private property, people ignore the sign and it's annoying for local residents. You can't bring your car here.
"Around the corner" - where do you live? I'll come and say hello sometime.

That photo was taken on a private lane. You will have seen the green sign on your left when enter, just past the school, where the gates to the park are. It's technically a public footpath, so you can walk there, but you can't take your car there* OK? *here.

When the Porsche 968 came out (1993 ish) I vowed to buy one. Many years later, I did; And then I had to sell it. I am still sad, but now have strong trouser feelings for an early Evora. I appreciate there are fancier machines out there, but the Evora is totally my kind of car. I will have one, some day.

Nice car, head gasket failure (and whatever damage might be found as a result once it's in bits) puts me off at that price though. Good luck
