Well the old gearbox had to come out before the new ribbed one could go in so out with the floor. I was pleased with the chassis rails as they are solid albeit a little bit of surface rust. Have a look . The master cylinder is keput. What a right pain it would be to change that if you just had one go and not when doing a tidy up like I am? The bolts are hindered but the torsion bar on one side and the gearbox xmember on the other. Anyhow, it's now changed. Handy tip is to take the weight off the front wheel and that allows a bit of more pry ability with a crowbar to sneak the bolts out. The chassis rails will get a good dose of this.

Ha ha I thought of that film when I realized what it was . I reckon it's the baffles rotted.

Thanks for your help guys Well after stripping carb for a second time and checking the firing order for the 5th time I finally had an epiphany. The car has been stood 15 years . I disconnected the exhaust and it burst into life! The exhaust baffles just have collapsed inside and blocked it unless there is a wasp nest in it. What a conundrum! Never heard of that before.

I got the engine and gearbox in on the moggy today. I wired up the dizzy and got a fat spark. The car has not ran for 15 years and this is a known good engine that I have swapped for the seized one. After getting it turning over I emptied the old fuel out. The fresh fuel was pumped through and the pipe connected to the carb. Now it tries to start, it's catching, but won't fire. I checked the firing order but all fine. The float bowl was full. I pulled a plug and it was dry. I have previously dismantled the su carb and cleaned it. I wonder what it could be? What would stop fuel getting in? Any thoughts would be gratefully received. Thanks Jed

Ooh good point, I am mounting this over the trans tunnel. Had a busy day. Old gearbox out. Master cylinder removed and binned, New one ordered. Pleased with solid chassis rails. New front brake pipes installed and the rear feed. Then engine and box in. Twas a bstard. Kept hitting garage door frame. In now though and another towel ruined ☺

Project moggy continues and hopefully engine going in tomorrow. I have been thinking about period sounds and don't want a modern system but can't really go for one of these look old but have dab stereos. So bought a few bits off eBay. The console will be extended down to house the 8 track. I might push it over to one side and use the available space to install a period cigarette lighter. Not that I smoke but handy for accessories. Might get a wipac map light😊.

I drove a bx with 315k on once. My own bx had done 80 k in one year according to the service history. Those xud diesels are really strong.

Looks a really satisfying job. Love the bx dash . When I went from a mk1 to a mk 2 I was so chuffed to have self cancelling indicators. Wish I could find a mk1 now.

Hi if you go on this forum there are different areas depending on how heavily modified the cars are. I am working on a standard one at the moment.yours sounds a good base .https://www.morrisminorowners.co.uk

Thanks for your help, it’s not a show car, more oily rag, I don’t want to use filler as the bulk head has lots of recessed areas that are hard to get access too, I just wanted to rub back surface rust and key the surrounding paint but try and minimise the slight imperfections in level that the newly clean areas will produce. Thanks all for your help.
