Isn't it strange how things happen, I had quite happily put the acclaim in storage, thinking I wouldn't get it out for the for see able future. First I get bumped up the list to have an injection in my back, then I'm at the RR weekender and for some unknown reason get the urge to do a track day, can't think why!
So I mention it to the Mrs thinking she will put the kibosh on the whole endeavor, she only says she wants to go too....
I'm writing this sat in my camping chair looking over the emptying weekender campsite imaginering what it take. More power is the main part, as I recall the power comes up nicely but plateaus early and at the top of the rev range is only making 70hp which is only one or 2 more than stock and that will not do.
I think the issue is in the yamaha r6 throttle bodies themselves I don't think the shutter behind the valve is fully opening, this is vacuum controlled much like an su piston. The options as i see them (if you can see more please let me know)
1: delete the shutters, this will probably leave me with a very sensitive accelerator pedal.
2: change the springs either by cut the springs down, my head says if you cut a suspension spring down you get a lower car with a harder spring, I want softer springs not harder, but it might not work the same in a this application.
3: change the size of the hole in the edge of the shutter that I think controls the lifting again head says make it bigger but I'm not sure.
4: take the lot up the common and burn it.
Answers on a postcard or preferably in a reply to this message. Pics to follow when I'm abit closer to the car. Dan
Ps thanks hotwire and co for a great weekend.

If you see a grey CRV pulling a tiny caravan its me. Looking forward to meeting some of the people behind the screen names. Dan Tiny caravan with overkill tow vehicle friend! The tiny caravan would normally be pulled by the acclaim, but that's another story. It looks quite comical TBH Dan

If you see a grey CRV pulling a tiny caravan its me.
Looking forward to meeting some of the people behind the screen names. Dan

Not much to report at the Mo, I have bought the 60k diff, and it appears to be in fairly good condition (This time I got someone with more knowledge than me to check it) which has put a dent in the hobby car fund. I've spent the last week getting an injection in my back and getting the tow-bar fitted to the CRV and other weekender prep.
I'm still looking for MGF 15" wheels, although my preference is coming round to the Minlite style ones. Dan

I did have the diff in the vice as a stand in for the diff spreader and got nearly all the shims back in, there's 2 that didn't make it back in. with no noticeable sideways movement. To be honest it sounds quite nice there's not much backlash, if I was under a car and felt it I'd not be worried.

Great to see you posting again, looking forward to the next exciting installment of, Mr Badger inside rosie. Cheers Dan, somehow you make it all sound so smutty when actually it's a very platonic relationship. It's a gift. Dan

Today I'm not sure what to do, but I should start yesterday, I had a closer look at the its been siting around under my bench see if its any good, spit diff. First thing is the nose bracket has been removed, and the pinion nut hasn't been put back in the same place and there's a good few mm of in out play on the input shaft. I spent some time scraping a reasonable layer of oil infused muddy carp off the outside of the casing. The contents of the diff are very dark grey thick oil. Someone's obviously been here before because all the output shaft flange bolts came out with barely a murmur of protest yep the worst one took a light tap on the end of the Allen key to free it. As it's the first time I've been in the workshop for a while iam so completely absorbed I forget to take any pics. I clean everything up with some stale petrol and look at the gears which look like this. Then I dunked everything in the sonic bath and retired to read the workshop manual, and for the first time in a long time I felt completely lost, the up shot is the sun gears inside the cage seem to need shims, one side has approx 1mm and the other 2-3mm of play, the output shafts have some movement in the splines. Is the play in the splines normal? Are the main gears worth rebuilding? The bearings are timkins, and don't look bad to the naked eye but under closer inspection look like they have work through the case-hardening. So i thort sod it and threw it all back together only to strip two threads out and possibly wreck the whole enterprise by over tightening the spring bolts and cracking the casting. At that point I thought curse word curse word curse word curse word curse word curse word curse word curse word curse word curse word, and came in. Now I have to confess to you lot what a humungous idiot I've been. Rescuing defeat from the jaws of victory. Dan

Its the future. Id an ev just for running to work and round town shopping ect, more money to spend on my toy cars. I don't see the point (like the running cost of) the current batch of hybrids, SWMBO has the mile muncher for work, we have been talking about EVs for the last couple of years and recon in 3-5 years she will go EV, but for now she has a .9l turbo civic, (which is the size of an accord,)

What are doing with the rear suspension? I was thinking of going to 14" in the hope of getting tyres with a higher speed rating, but it's not worth it. 15" would allow me to get tyres with a rating above 120mph, but I want to keep the original suspension and rubber band sidewalls aren't going to be a good idea. Hi ferny long time no see fella I'm looking at 195/65/15s which are slightly larger rolling radus than the stock and 65 should be a reasonable side wall to allow for the suspension swing, i have a couple of options ether (what i belive to be) a van spring or change to a spit swing spring. Possibly with some monroe air assisted shocks. Dan

I have in my possession a 3.63:1 ratio spitfire 1500 diff, it's not quite as good as the 3.27, but that one was only made for Swiss 1500s and non OD GT6s which would have been my first choice but, they command a high price and 3.63 is far better than the 4.11:1 that's in the car now. , According to the gear calculator using standard spit rims with the tallest tyre I can find for sensible money a 175\80\13 uniroyal at £52 a corner 70 is at just over 3500 rpm, but if I switch to an mgf \tf rim I can get a 195\65\15 no name tyre for £32 or a uniroyal for £43 a corner. Which drops the 70mph revs by 200 rpms So I'm on the look-out for some mgf\tf 15" rims if anyone has some gathering dust in a corner let me know. Dan
