SIMCAs are a Ward family thing with brother Kev having several. Today we had both our SIMCA 1100 hatchbacks out at the Monday market car show that's now restarted after the lockdown. The twin carb versions of the SIMCA 1100 were always a rarity in the UK. as SIMCA only offered the Twin Weber DCNF carbed 1204 Special in '70 & '71. After that we never got the 1294cc 'Ti' the rest of Europe did, with SIMCA Spain going further with a 1442cc engine on twin 36 DCNFs. My 1100 is a '77 GLX, originally with the basic 1118cc engine. It has received a 1442 engine with the twin DCNF's from a MATRA-SIMCA Bagheera but it's even livelier having been fitted with the race cam from my old oval racer, now a sort of spanish spec 'Ti' plus. Kev's 1100 was originally the rare 1204 Special, but it had suffered badly rust wise. During the rebuild he decided to give it a real power boost. It now runs a Honda 16 valve from a Rover 400 running on Twin 40 DCNF carbs. My 1100 runs on 6x14 wheels from a Lancia Dedra and Kev's runs on 6x14's, I forget the make that have been on various cars in the family including a horizon, Renault 19 and Toyota Corolla. The SIMCA 1204 engine is now in my garage as a spare for my Bertone coupe. It went Ok but the Honda engine gives it some real Go. Also the Honda gearbox supplies something the SIMCA 1100 never had.... a decent gearchange..!! Photos below...

stormbird262 Adrian Ashton who has a stall at the Monday market, is trying to get the autojumble going on mondays. He arranged with the council for old transport to park up with it. He organised the hugely successful Chesterfield Motorfest in 2018 and 19 and would have done this year if the virus hadn't intervened. I'll be there with the 1200S coupe on monday and brother Kev will with one of his SIMCAs or MATRA Bagheeras. Here's my SIMCA pickup with the racer in tow at a previous Monday effort. The photo further up the page of the coupe going past the Market Hall is it on its way to our club stand (in second photo) by the town hall at the 2019 Motorfest.

stormbird262 Some of the photos are from 2019... the Hope Show and the Thoresby one. This year, the only shows we have been to are one Thoresby and a couple here in Chesterfield at Chester Street club. One was planned for November there but lockdown prevented it. The other photos are at the Monday market here in Chesterfield. To support the market and an autojumble, old car owners were invited to park their vehicles free in the New Square area of the market which is normally a pedestrian area (access from West Bars by the Portland Hotel (Wetherspoons)). My Brother and I are retired so free on monday mornings so supported this effort with our SIMCAs and MATRAs. Over the last few weeks of lockdown that's been off of course but now in tier 3 the market is open again so the cars etc are welcome again. Arrive 10am onwards, come and go whenever you wish. Also free parking while you shop around town..!!

great news simonazzi Good to hear of another example of what is a rare car in the UK. I edit the mag for SIMCA Club UK. If you need parts, advice etc towards returning it to the road you ought to join our club. I've PM'd you with info. Mick

jasperclan Yes, I now remember 2005 was the last year I went to Zolder, the following year, I believe the last year the Class)c Club Race meeting was run, I was unable to free myself from work commitments. I'm still in touch with Frank Breidenstein, the original owner of the orange SIMCA. I edit the magazine for SIMCA Club UK and Frank runs the German SIMCA Heckmotor Club and we swap mags, articles etc. The photo below shows the UK SIMCA lineup at Zolder in 2005, I went in my road Rallye 2 (yellowish one second from Left} and Daniel Burrowes in his Green Rallye 2 next to it and Phil Hart in his orange 1000. We all miss those Zolder meetings. Frank's orange ex 'Youngtimer' racer is still going strong and keeps me entertained on the trackdays I enjoy in my retirement.

generallee Top Photo is from Buxton 1982 ish, a rare shot of me #51 in the Anglia and brother Kev #151 in the Sunbeam. Here's one from late '83 by which time I'd taken over the Sunbeam and Kev had borrowed my old Anglia for a brief 'comeback'.
