Yeah new engine would be nice, not really easy though. Not sure about the fans, I put in a new thermoswith but i only heard the fan once, and not while it was overheating as it should! So not sure it was working after the new switch I decided my fans worked after i tried turning them on manually, quite easy to try out. just "connect" 2 of the 4 connectors in the plug shown i the last picture with the thermoswith/radiator fan switch on it. theres 2 connections pr. fan and all the switch does is complete the electrical connection for 1 or 2 fans depending on how hot the switch is. heh that took me a while to figure out so hopefully its some usefull information xD

I would say fix it with a new engine 8)
(easier said than done ofc..)
That weather really don't look like its any fun being out working on cars in...
Did you ever figure out which part of the cooling system made the fans stop working, mine is not working either... i think the radiator fan switch is the cause of my trouble though... since the fans seem to work just fine if i start them meself 8)

For the last 2-3 weeks its been raining almost daily, weather reports have predicted the first sub zero temperature nights within the next week. This means that winter time is here, soon there will be ice and snow on the roads and to make it more safe to travel in "the great big outside" they are going to spread SALT everywhere. and thats definetly something thats killed quite alot of cars over the time... why they don't use sand is something i will never understand. At this point I'm convinced its a big goverment scheme, because if cars die faster people have to buy more of them which means more money in car tax... I cant prove anything, but atleast i can get my own car away from all the winter horrors, tucked somewhat safely away back in my brothers garage where it will slumber until its time to wake up once again ! Tucked away, late november with 120.000 km`s on the clock. I miss it already... Also got new disc`s and pads up front trying to get rid of the incredebly anoying brake shakes ^^ Didnt Work, maybe some diffrent bushes could cure it, also read somewhere it could be the hubs...

Well... I'm not sure about the story behind the viva, it could be a keeper and you would end up regretting it forever. very few of us are lucky enough to have the space and finances to keep all the cars we want.. and because of that sometimes one of them have to go so we can scatch the itch so to say..
For me personally i have only one keeper, the sierra. its because its been in the family for so many years now, and i really enjoy working on it. So to "scath my itch" i will (when finaces will allow) probably end up with 3 cars, the sierra, a daily and some short term fun car to do more stupid stuff to than i dare do to my keeper xD
I hope this little bit of input will help you decide what to do to scratch your itch 8)

My plan is to buy something with normal levels of ground clearance, chuck some winter tyres off and it'll be fine. Maybe chuck a blanket, shovel, can of diesel and some dry firewood in the car just incase I get stuck because of others. This is also my plan, only add tools, food, rope, dry socks, and somme of those nice rally lights that makes everything white in a blizzard One of those wire pullers (thats not the real name) mounted on the car would also come in really handy Car wise I'm looking for a diesel van ala this: Funny this thread should pop up, was wondering myself what "The Peoples" wintercar should look like and cary

5 spoke seems to suit them aswell as mesh wheels.. 17" seems to be the prefered size..
is it for racing or cruising?

Good looking car, looks to be in near mint condition 8)
Sometimes i wonder how a car could survive 30 years and still be in that good shape ? i guess some people really know how to take care of their cars xD
Ive been looking into cars of this type myself, but since I'm looking for a winther beater i just couldnt get myself to get a classic... i would end up caring to much for it haha.
anyways, grats on the new ride 8)
