the 420 engines are super sweet for cruizing around, if you push them they can be quick (ish) but not warp speed. they are super smooth though.
when driving my 420 i allways had they idea the car was hesitating to accelerate as if it was asking, are you really sure you want to go that fast? and then went off..

Always nice to read a good story on how it is to live with old cars, but i have to agree with EmDee that the grey on blue really hurts your eyes. Also the pictures should be bigger, and it would be nice if they open in a new window/tab if they're clicked. the writing is enjoyable though, so keep it coming!

Thanks Darren, yes that's me who's been on rrg with Thomas ( The Doctor).. Thanks for the heads up on the braces, I'll probably mock something up to replace them but they don't fit a 280 cylinder head so had to go. I think I'll move the battery to the other side, as it's an LPG car theres not much space in the boot for it (allready got an 85 ltr tank in there) It's a D-jet so not too hard to get running once all the sensors are there, I'm not too bothered to get it running perfectly though as I'm running LPG 99% of the time anyway and the whole D-jet stuff will be switched off during that. And as it's an 68 it doesn't require CO testing for MOT anyway (that's 71-). here's some info on the D-jet (in dutch, but ran it through google translate) D-jet tech site. If you're not going to use the lights madmog , I would be interested to have them off you. I am keeping the US lights for now, but might get bored or in need to change them. If you want rid of them drop me a PM, I can supply you an address in the UK to ship them to (shipping cost will be paid obviously). Other way round, if you need some /8 bits let me know as these cars are still plentyfull in the netherlands and so are parts. anyway some more work was done to it.. wacked some filler on (or actually dennismo did) after a few runs of sanding, fillering, sanding, fillering.... it looked smooth... let it dry for a while and then I'll get some paint on there..

He's probably sold off all of his old diesels to Africa to get rid of them as they have become worthless here since tax has changed on them.
But what are you looking for exactly?

he will negotiate, as he's dutch...
last year they changed tax rules on pre 1987 diesel and LPG cars, making them nearly unsellable in the Netherlands. The dealer might be not very helpfull due too loads of timewasters, did you give him a call or did you contact via email?

ooh i like this: wheels suit the car better than the alloys you've got on it now.. as a side notice... factories didn't even bother designing rear lights back then, fascinating how this has changed. this was just a that'll do from the disigner as he grabbed some VW santana lights out of the parts department and I bet there's a lot more cars with exactly the same rear light layout

When it comes to seats velours, alcantara and leather are fine with me, but steering wheels, leather only...
all other materials on the wheel get sweaty and slippery in my hands..
