Had these made for my car to help with clearance and bump steer. Like you said I would worry that a Z would cause a week link when cornering etc. Just my opinion 🤔 Thanks for that,At the moment, that not a solution as my rack is mounted high up on the bulkhead behind the engine, but I can store it as an option to help later?, with mounting my rack, my ideal solution would have been to mount it under the sump, but the van does not have a crossmember nor much in the way of chassis rail to mount from, so Opted to remove the steering box and use a rack that replicated the centre drag link position and function, Pic of the original mockup, Drivers side arm is not fitted, and thats the side with clearance issues.

How much bend are you wanting? I've had a 1" offset Z bend in the Saxo tie rods for 40,000 miles with no issue.[/quote I showed my other half the problem today, she's a nurse, and has no clue mechanically, she suggested the dogleg, I was a bit dubious but you have made me feel better, I will need to turn up longer arms, , not a big deal, then put a set in the arms, a further option is to swapping and flipping the steering arms from side to side, that will give me a bit more room foe manoeuvring

I am having trouble getting my steering track rods to clear several essential Items, like the rack itself........ the rack concerned is a polo centre pivot rack, but in getting the car LOW, its now starting to cause issues as the arms now run parralell to the rack, and when the suspension goes into compression, there is a interference issue, that much, that I have managed to bend the track rod arms, this is obviously undesirable, one option would be to put a z bend in the track arms, but in my mind this will weaken the arms in compression and they may bend or fail, any other suggestions?

If ever there was the comment ...... is it too low, I might be heading towards it, that's not on bags, just where I want the car to sit, cutty cutty, weldy weldy time,

I have been to hell and back trying to get the front geometry to work, because of my want of a good dab of camber, I made almost everything adjustable, the king pin was laying at about 15degs of camber, fec, did this give me some bump steer, 25mm on the up and 25mm on the down in opposite directions, I ended up removing the adjuster/slide plates which fitted under the top "wishbone" mount, its looking better, But I think the rack position needs moving which may result. in me cutting the top of the bell housing open, as used to be done when fitting fiat twinks into Morris Minors When I bought the van, It was partially stripped, partially restored, with no passenger door fitted, never thought much about it, until somebody mentioned that the reason it was in the back of the van it never fitted because of a c-ock up when welding the shell, well with haste, I thought I had better try the door, found some bronze hinge balls and hinge pins now for a little car, these doors are disproportionally lardy, with a bit of a Jiggle, and bronze balls rolling across the floor, the pins in the hinges were dropped into position, and the door was on, with a careful shove, the door went twang and creak, the door caught on the screws that hold on the front wing, Ok that's a quick fix, screws changed, the door shut.... and all the gaps are pretty good, Phew, good really because the doors I have are early depressed panel ones and are quite hard to get With doing the wiring, or planning the wiring, it has occurred to me the instruments I'm using do not have any Idiot warning lights, or anywhere to mount them apart from the old switch panel mounted in the parcel shelf, so with a rummage thru my box of ole wibblepoo I came up with these...... I think they are old aircraft warning lights, I quite like them because they are so as my wife described them as ACIDIC, the only problem is I need a BLUE light, ..... anybody got one in their box o wibblepoo?

Oil blacking up to Cherry would kill the heat treatment and the Tensile value of the bolt,
Another thing thats a bit of a NoNo is chroming suspension parts, chrome will hide cracks, you will never see chrome suspension on a racer, its all nickel.

Annodizing is not for steel....... Alluminium and some magnesium variants,
Is hpme plating worth the effort, I'm not sure, as with painting, prep is what gives good shiny results, and its the prep that takes the time, and, how long or fussy are you wanting to get the finish you may require, plating over rust, I think will be a waste of effort inn the long term,
Hydrogen Embrittlement would not be a problem with normal medium tensile bolts, the problem occurs in high tensile applications. and is not only caused by plating, but pickeling to remove rust as well, and is one of the reasons you should never see HT bolts plated, thy normally come with a black finish

Just bookmarked this, I do love a Rootes car of this period, I did look at a super Minx convertible recently, the plan was to make a hardtop from a superminx roof, and make a 2 door coupe, big capacity Small Block Ford. as per Sunbeam Tiger, and smoke about in that.....

The boys going to earn his wages today then! You do pay him wages do you?!! 100% of all my sales are internet based so the parts all go by post or courier and delivery times are all over the place at the moment, most stuff is getting there in the 2/3 days specified but the odd bit has taken 12 days and that was a signed and tracked delivery! I have paid for several OVERNIGHTS and its taken 10 days plus to arrive

I have been very fortunate with my neighbours, I have had one complaint from the woman next door, when I started my v8 Zodiac on open headers in the garage that was under her house, I apologised, and that was the last she said, but she did move about 6 months later, As a rule, I'm never out in the Garage/workshop making noise before 11, and my curfew is 6, as I understand people do like to sit outside in the evenings, and also have children that go to bed early, I have said to all my neighbours past and present, that if I am making too much noise, please tell me, and, IF I am making noise after 6, its because I need to get something finished urgently, never heard a whisper for 30 years.......

Georgeb arranging the masks has highlighted something. Amazing how somebody 6500 miles away can arrange something to be delivered, for no financial gain, within a couple of days ,yet some tosser from eBay who lives less than 15miles away from me cannot send what he’s been paid for. “ It’s the post mate” ....on yer bike.....👎🏻 Off to get some cheese to go with that little wine....🤣🤣🤣 I can relate to this, I could not go and pick up this item as they were on lockdown, BUT if I was trade, I could go and pick up the item, But I'm not....So, I ordered a temp sender from them, Their shop is a place not more than 2 miles away, ................................13 Days to arrive!!!!!!, one of their drivers even lives down my road!!!!!

Ready for this? No, me neither. Oddly, I quite like that, all apart from the little duck Tail on the back, Parked, if I'm not mistaken on the Meadow at Brands Hatch, Maybe a Brands Hatch thing, but within 3 months of the allegro being introduced, there was a Orange? may have been Harvest Gold, Allegro with Mk1 Escort Bubble Arches, Slot mags, Owned by somebody who worked at Brands, I loved That Car, used to see it driving thru Lewisham on a regular basis

I had a 2 pieces of 2x4, one along the wall so I could park the car wheels tight to the side wall without scraping the car, and a smaller piece, about 300mm bolted to the floors the wheel wold hit it when the car would clear the door and allow it to shut.
