I got 32mpg on my last tank in the mx5, mostly by driving at 65 on the motorway. Can't hear the radio if I go any faster anyway. The rest of the time I nail it though. Heel and toe into corners and roundabouts, rather than coasting in gear I use tesco 99, but I don't think it makes much difference to the economy.

Ok, that looks usable. Do you have a multimeter by any chance? Just need to check which way the buttons work. I'd guess they're normally open, ie the switch is off until you press it.
Does it look like you'll be able to mount the device around the wheel somewhere?

What a great pile of potential. If you do get grief, I offer a dragon's den style investment of 50% of what you paid, for 50% of what you sell it for Good luck with it and your holiday

Seeing as you're in Chesterfield, I'd recommend the Kelham Island museum in Sheffield. Nothing to do with cars, but has a couple of interesting static steam engines, one massive steam engine used for rolling steel and a bunch of other steel related things from yesteryear. They run this one up a few times a day, supposedly the most powerful steam engine still running. Actually, I just remembered - there are a few cars at the end. Pre war stuff. Check opening times though, I don't think they're open on Saturdays!

Glad to hear you're ok.
If it were me, I'd take the hit on the van and retrieve whatever you can from scrap and wheels. I don't know how old you are, but it could easily cost a lot more in insurance premiums.
I found myself in exactly the same situation with a Focus that was worth about 2.5k a few years ago. As it turned out it was repairable with just bolt on bits (subframes, bumpers, rads etc...), but I worked out it would be cheaper to just scrap it and buy a new car without getting the insurance involved.

I thought it was short for barracuda, so I'd say coo-duh, or maybe coo-dar if I were southern.

When I was at school I had a German exchange student over who thought it was odd we didn't say 'people car' rather than Volkswagen. Depends how far you want to take it I suppose

I heard someone call my car a Tree-Umph once. Waz 'ee Franch? True enough we all speak funny. I've heard Americans say Hun-die. They love dropping syllables

I think a lot if it is just accent, how are we supposed to say Volkswagen? It's accepted to say Renault without the T as in French, but VW is pronounced English?
Jag-wahh is my favourite (as in American).

Give them a call, it seems to be different for every policy, never mind company. If they're a big name, they'll be listed on www.saynoto0870.com/ which can save you from premium rate numbers by getting in their back door

Be careful with this, it catches a lot of people out. I know for a fact my fully comp doesn't cover me on anyone else's car at all. Yours might, but you're best to check with them - its only a few minutes on the phone.
One thing that catches people is that the car normally has to be owned and insured by someone else. I guess the idea is to stop you insuring one car and running 10 off the one policy. I don't know if that's what you were suggesting in your second question?
In relation to the first question - where trade ownership and insurance fits into the above, I don't know...

Does it start ok? If it is difficult to start I'd guess at head gasket.
Maybe try clearing it out and check if the breather is blocked, then see if it comes back.

Just did a search to find this again. I will report back with the lowest offset 4x100 steels I can find.
...mmm ok, not much choice in 15". The brand new Astra has et31 but they won't be cheap. Lots of choice if you're willing to wobble bolt a Fiat 4x98 though.

This has been one of my recent daydreams... the best I came up with is a V6 from a Jag S-type. A reasonable power to juice ratio and a manual box, also with the right pipes it could sound lovely. Lots about and either 200 or 240bhp for the 2.5/3.0 litre versions. Based ultimately on Mazda stuff I think, so shouldn't be unreliable Oh yeah, and S-types are cheap as chips atm. Depends if it's a daily and how much you drive it? I'm interested whatever you go with, I've decided my next car will be a 2wd J pickup

Here are some great articles all about engines, turbos and generally making your car go faster. They were published in Fast Ford mag by Stu Sanderson of MSD. www.motorsport-developments.co.uk/stus.htmlThere are four articles on mapping, a couple on spark timing, a couple on turbos and boost controllers... all good stuff.
