No, it drops out. With cruise control on, on a level road, it will drop a gear, revs increase but road speed doesn't. I know 3 in effect locks out top, but I was also wondering about using 3 - 2 - 1 as 'manual' gears, shifting up from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 (and vice-versa) as required.

My Ford A4LD 'box drops out of top occasionally, with a rebuild apparently required to cure the problem. I was wondering if I would damage it less if I made more use of the 3-2-1 options rather than just keeping it D for everything, with the attendant annoyance of it slipping, my theory being that if it slips, it's causing damage. I'm doing a lot of urban town driving at the moment, so it doesn't even get *into* fourth very often but I don't really want to cause *more* damage to other parts of the 'box. Does that make sense?

Not retro, but *very* petrolhead-y, you can put someone's name on the tailfin of the 1000mph Bloodhound SSC car for just ten quid. www.bloodhoundssc.com/support-us#formEspecially good for those people who say 'Oh, don't buy me anything this year'.

This sounds really cool Hmm I wonder if the MG would make it all the way to Le Mans.. Oh also, you may struggle to get cars on the Eurostar, the Euro Tunnel however.. I work at St Pancras, and have had customers ask me where they drive their car on...

Acquired from eBay for the princely sum of two pounds and twenty pee. Admittedly, it is for an A-reg Porsche, but it was typed rather than written, and it's so small and faint, you can barely see it.

I must admit I didn't really read the ad (short of time before running out the door to work), but now I have, I see exactly what you mean.

Compared to the prices I normally see these go for, that is a massive bargain!

I don't drive every day, but when I do, it's the Granada (it's the only car I've got!).

We've generally had old cars, because we couldn't afford anything else but obviously old ones (for want of a better phrase) were generally not well liked because of the risk of breakdown, cost of parts and all sorts of other things. She loves the Granny though, it's amazing what electric windows, a sunroof, aircon and leather seats can do

I found some 3-in-1 oil under the sink, gave it a good dose of that and left it overnight, and it's just popped straight off on the first go. Tried it on and off a few times and it seems to be working perfectly now. I wondered if the mechanism was just stiff, having been sat on a shelf for God knows how long.

Well, it's a cap that's designed for the car, it's just not an 'official' Ford one.

Yep, off the car it worked absolutely perfectly, and it locked first time once I put it on. Tried pushing down and pulling up, and neither have worked, although I might need to be a bit firmer. Deburring is a good idea though, ta!

'The path of my life is strewn with cow pats from the devil's own satanic herd!' Got a NOS (but not Ford) cap off eBay to replace the one that got nicked, put it on, locked it fine but now can't unlock it! The key slots in easily, but it's really hard to turn, it won't turn more than twenty degrees or so, and I don't want to be too rough with it in case it snaps. Is it going to be a case of bludgeoning it with a screwdriver? Any ideas? It's this type:
