Thanks for the suggestions! On reflection, I think 126 and 2CV are not a good idea, what with unusual suspension and strange engines, and the air-cooledness of a Beetle is a minus point. Only because I'm unlikely to come across many aircooled flat-fours unless that's what I specifically want. And I think I'd like to learn about carburettors too, so probably won't go for something injected. Something separately-chassised appeals too though. Spitfire maybe, although I realise that cars of that ilk are few and far between. I've never really been keen on Minors. Polo is not a bad idea though, and one to consider. Part of the learning will involve learning to weld, it's all part of the fun!

It's time to face the fact that I don't really know that much about cars. I know roughly how they work, and some idea about what to look for when they go wrong, but not much beyond that. I have in the past changed a starter motor, wheel bearings and a head gasket (with help) but I think it's time to learn more. So, when I move and actually get somewhere with a driveway or garage, I hope to get a small and simple car that I can strip and rebuild and learn along the way. What would you recommend? I guess it needs to be something with good parts availability, so the obvious choice is a Mini. They're getting pricey now though (although there's one on eBay for £850). Any other ideas? Fiat 126? Early Fiesta? 2CV? Don't be offering me anything just yet, I don't have anywhere to put it

If this was moved to Cheshire (near Crewe), would anyone be interested? Because there's a chance it could be moved up there to my Mum's and SORNed in a couple of weeks.

rmad could help you sell it quickly by sticking his recent Granada artwork in here ... although I think it is in the current Classic Ford Magazine so maybe he has to hold off on doing that. Well, I've found an example on the contents page... This VERY car is shown in the article as the perfect base to build this project...

Well, well! A new garage has opened up in the next street to me. And apparently, they are automatic gearbox specialists. That's handy!

This is more like £350's worth with gearbox problems at best I'm afraid (You did ask, before I get flamed) and even then expect a long slog before it drives away. It drives away fine now. It just doesn't go into top. I've done about ten thousand miles with the 'box as it is. But going by ianmk2's thread where his Granada exhibited the same problems, it does sound very much like wiring. I just don't have the facilities (like a driveway or ramps) to do it myself.

I really like it... It's like a bigger version of a Wood & Pickett Mini. As for owning it and restoring it, no chance (unfortunately).

Short answer is that nobody is going to pay you a grand for a cosmetically challenged Mk3 Granada with a long list of faults and a knackered gearbox. I wouldn't say the gearbox is 'knackered'. So, in your opinion, what should it be priced at? A few people have already said they think that the price is about right. I'll let this ad run, and if I get nothing out of it, redo the description and relist it, I think.

Yeah, I've decided to take the plunge and whack it on there. Same ad, same photos, so let's see.

Cards on the table, ladies and gents. I need this gone pretty sharpish. Not had a single sniff yet, not a phone call, not an email, despite the car being advertised here, Facebook (in two specialist groups) and four other websites. I could go to eBay of course, but having never sold on there before and having heard a lot of stories about issues sellers have had, I'm a little reticent. Is it overpriced? I thought a grand for a car with full MoT was pretty reasonable? And I know it's the less desirable version, but with less than twenty on the road, I'd have thought *someone* would want it. Your thoughts would be welcomed.

What is that strange apparatus to the left of the binnacle? It looks like some weird prototype cup holder!
