Good update. What are your plans if the change of use goes well? Just coffee & ice cream as original plan? Have you thought of a name yet? If the change of use comes back ok, our plans are quality loose leaf teas, coffees, gelato ice creams, cakes, scones, tarts, paninis, soup, award winning pies and scotch eggs, all from local suppliers, toast, toasted tea cakes, granola pots....etc, etc. No one in Saltburn seems to have a good range of quality loose leaf teas or gelato ice creams, so we hope to get a name for them. As well as serving quality produce, with a smile, and at a good price. Of course.

I wish you all the luck in the world with your new venture mate, hope it goes well for you! Thanks mate, appreciate that. I expect to see you up this way when we're open. Well then. Time for an update I think. Right. Great Ayton. The first premises. Fell down completely through no fault of our own. We had bent over backwards when the landlord decided she wouldn't allow us to change the use of the premises to A3 (hot food cafe/coffee shop). She didn't want her tenant upstairs 'suffering' the nasty coffee and food smells! We rolled with that body blow, and decided we still wanted that location, so we changed plan to open a fine foods artisan deli and gelato shop. Then a week or so later, the landlord notified us that her insurance company wouldn't allow subletting (bear in mind we were going to sublet from the guy who holds the main lease - the florist). The only way we could proceed was if the florist would assign the lease to us and walk away from it. When he came back and advised us that, despite not having any interest in going back into the premises, he wasn't willing to give up the lease it was a bit of a kick in the sprouts. So that was it basically. We had to pull out, and lost a bit of money with the solicitor, and the £385 we paid to the council for the original change of use application. Not ones to get down when we're kicked, we started looking for alternative premises. We went to look at one in Hartlepool Marina, then another in Whitby, and then saw one advertised quite close by in Saltburn. Fifty seven square metres over two floors, busy location, sea view, blank canvas, and not that much more a month than we were going to pay in Great Ayton. We viewed it, and struck whilst the iron was hot, as there was plenty of interest in it. Deposit was paid to secure it, then lease signed, and we picked up the keys on the 17th November. It used to be a photography studio. We have a change of use application in with Redcar & Cleveland council, which will be decided by 10th January latest. We can't see an issue with being granted the change of use, but if it is declined, we will fall back on Plan B as we were going to in Great Ayton with a fine foods deli. A few pics of the premises as we walked into it. So, onwards to getting some colour going. Our original idea was to go green, so on with it I started... So, then came a curveball. I got an email from the landlord at about 10pm to let us know that his company has a policy that all the properties they manage have a grey front. OK, so why wasn't this mentioned at the time of lease signing? An oversight apparently. Don't get me wrong, he's actually a decent guy, but we were a bit narked when we got that email. I fought our corner, saying that grey didn't fit in with our plans etc blah blah. To his credit, he did come back to us, and as it was his oversight, he relented and for us said tat we could proceed with the green. Good? Well, yes, good, BUT, after receiving the email, we looked at images of grey frontages, only to realise that they probably look smarter, more classy maybe, than the green. So....a complete change of plan, but not without us wording our reply into making sure the landlord is actually grateful to us for doing it LOL Right. Grey is good. But, it meant a trip to get some grey paint, and two coats (more in places) over all the green I put on the previous day. I felt early in the day that it was a complete waste of the previous days efforts and painting, but, I guess you learn from everything, and we think the grey is much nicer than the green. This is the sort of look we like... ...so the transformation from green to grey commenced... ...and today, Julie and I got some emulsioning done... ...and the exterior is done. The signage and window decals are still to sort... I'm pulling up the old floors tomorrow. Wish me luck!

My wife and I decided recently to work for ourselves, and pack in our 'normal' jobs. We are opening up a coffee shop in Saltburn in the New Year, so there won't be weekends spare to take the caravan away. Hence the sale of both the caravan and Discovery. Is that the coffee shop you mentioned some weeks ago? To jump or not to jump? Good luck with this new adventure. I am sure it will work out for you. I just had a "google" look at Saltburn. Must be a nice place to be. Yes, that's 'that' coffee shop! I really must update that thread, as loads has happened since.

2.8 V6 bargain luxobarge? Yes. Cream/Blue interior? No. God no. Really enjoy your threads showing all the small jobs that can really tidy up a car. She is looking a lot better already after just a wash/detail. Best of luck with it. Thanks mate. Ref the interior colour combo, I absolutely love it.

As expected, one very nice and clean motor vehicle. I like your "fleet". but understand that the Disco and caravan are going. No camping anymore? My wife and I decided recently to work for ourselves, and pack in our 'normal' jobs. We are opening up a coffee shop in Saltburn in the New Year, so there won't be weekends spare to take the caravan away. Hence the sale of both the caravan and Discovery.

Is that interior standard? Mad combo of blue and cream. I’ve seen blue ones and cream ones but never the mix. Looks factory standard interior to me. I have the option codes sticker in the service book.

Waiting for "washing and polishing" photo's..... Not sure if that's a "love seeing Chris's washing/polishing pics" or "Oh jeez, not more washing/polishing pics". The internet is awful for not picking up on sarcasm or seeing it when it's not there.

So with the Discovery for sale, and the caravan awaiting a small repair before we advertise it, the situation might have arisen where we had a caravan on the drive without the capability of moving it. So, without really looking for one, something that ticked all the boxes appeared and I collected the new motor today. It may be long term, it may be for the winter only. I guess it may just be until the caravan sells....but I doubt it. It's a nice place to sit, and sounds rather sweet. It's a really early Audi A6, from 1997, which I believe was the first year of production of these. 2.8 V6, 30 valve 193 bhp Quattro permanent four wheel drive 5 speed auto/tiptronic box Gorgeous cream leather/blue interior Low miles for a 20 year old car (119k) Needs the timing belt changed, as although it's only done 30k since it was last changed, it was 13 years ago (parts supplied by the previous owner). The drivers window regulator is knackered, so I'll sort that (again, parts supplied by the previous owner). Front NS tyre needs replacing (was the only advisory on the MOT in September). Needs the usual damn good clean/clay/polish/wax etc. Wheels could do with a refurb. The seller is a good friend who runs his own garage with his dad. I trust him 100% when he says it's a great example. It's been up on the ramps, and it's completely solid underneath, but has been freshly wax oiled, as well as having a service (oil/filters/plugs). Just needs the cam belt sorting. Really enjoyed the 75 mile drive home. It's very smooth and refined, but sounds lovely too. Some pics after I got it home. The original stereo is pretty good, and it has a CD changer in the boot.

Aw! I was just teasing or being Devil's advocate! That one is on air ride. I'm not suggesting Dan goes that low - as I said maybe "Sportline" height? :-) Fair point. Didn't realise it was on air. I guess my opinion still stands that I think it looks wrong when it's ar*e is on the floor, but hey, that's just me. I'm old. Funny, I had just re-read my post and was hoping you wouldn't take it in the wrong way.

Not that I'm trying to be a bad influence mate! :-) Nice looking example @imperial, but in the quest for balance, I don't like how low it is. Slamming them doesn't always work for me. Like I said though, nice looking car.
