It might help if you told us a bit more info other than it won't start. Firstly, what engine and year is it? Does it turn over at all and if so is the battery strong? Can you actually get it to start at all even if it runs badly? What happened prior to the problem(s), was everything ok and then it just stopped? Fill us in with some details and we might be able to help.

Hi and welcome to RR. I really like the GT Polo's. The combination of being light weight, having a revvy and fairly powerful engine with a short ratio final drive make 'em a real hoot to drive. A few sensible tweeks to the chassis and brakes won't go amiss though, the Polo's only real weak point. Yours appears to be a really tidy example, it'd be great to see some more pics of it. Cheers, Richard.

[quote author=misterbob board=readersrides thread=110402 post=Out of interest, what's the general concesus on here. Do people prefer the original lattice, cross-spoke style wheels, or these new multi-spokes?
[/quote]
Personally I think the original X spokes suit it better. However, if I was gonna change the wheels I think I'd go or some 16" rims and fit slightly lower profile 50 or 55 series tyres to keep the rolling radius the same.
That really is a lovely TVR you have there, certainly appears to be very clean and sound example. Good to see you're fixing it up properly and cleaning and tidying it up as you go.

I've had a couple of Nova's in the past. Much underated partly due to so many chavs having them Our first one was a mint D plate 1.3 SR and it was a lovely car to drive - pretty nippy too. Then we "upgraded" to a GSi which turned out to be a bit of a disappointment in some ways. Yeah the interior was nicer with electric windows, central locking etc but it never felt that quick really, partly due to the longer gearing and less rev happy engine. Just felt a bit flat in comparison to the SR despite an extra 25 BHP. Good luck with sorting the rust out, it'll be lovely once it's done.

+1 on the wheels being too big. The rest however is just stunning.

Steve, what size and ET are the alloys? 'Tyres already look fairly low profile. Really looking mint in those last few pics Steve, nice to see your cleaning and protecting the shell and polishing as you go. Keep the updates coming, Cheers, Richard.

That's looking really nice mate. Sensible stickage required, not too much though as it'd be a shame to ruin such a decent chassis. My Dad had one of these albeit only a 1.8 auto but in SE spec. Very smooth and quiet, ever so easy and relaxing to drive. Combined with the full leather interior with virtually every conceivable electric gadget you can think of and superb reliability, they are an awful lot of car for the money.

Dan, that is really looking good in that last pic. with the rear suspension up a notch and those fading VW decals. The door speaker installation is very tidy indeed, those Audioscape pods look so O.E. which I always like. Tweeter mounts are a very neat idea too. Keep up the good work mate, Cheers, Richard.

I gotta say I think the Coupe is a nice shape for a modern - especially when you consider it's a Hyundai. I reckon a nice set of alloys and a mild drop would work wonders. Definately a car with potential for not a lot of outlay.

I really hope someone comes forward and buys this. It's gagging for a decent respray to make it a minter. Love that interior, so basic but functional and in superb condition. A superb base car to work from. GLWTS Lawsy.

Good thread - well done saving the wing too - were Royales only ever 4 door or did they badge some Monzas as Royales too? As an aside, upon studying the first pic at Cholmondley on P1, I realise that i'm in it! That's me in the black t-shirt taking a pic (with my son to my left)! The Royale could be had as a Coupe too, same shape as the Monza.

"Have you thought about replacing the light units to ones from a BMW E30 as they will be Bosch and possibly a similar size
Keep up the good work"
I think you'll find the BMW ones are a bit smaller than the VW ones so won't be an easy replacement. The later VW halogen units are an improvement over these early light units. Combined with decent bulbs and an uprated wiring loom (details should be on on Club Polo) they are reasonably good.

I've got a cast ally cam cover that has quite a smooth finish and I want to spray it (ideally) satin black or crackle finish black. I don't really want to roughen the surface prior to spraying as I've used some JB Weld on it which I've sanded and blended in. Can anyone recommend a tough and durable spray or paint that'll go straight on? Thanks in advance, Richard.

Dunno how to post pics up but Mike Costin/Keith Duckworth and Colin Chapman are all well worth a mention. All heros of course!
