If it is cutting out whilst driving along and then regaining power/ jumping about etc, my money would be on the Hall sender in the dizzy. They are the root of most evils on these cars and prone to failure. Might be worth swapping over the dizzy with Steve's one (when he ain't looking) just to prove the point. Personally I doubt it is a mixture problem, but you can confirm this by checking the colour of the plugs - white/light grey = lean or black/sooty if it's running rich. Good luck with.

Stunning car mate, look after it. The colour is just so right, different but cool. Only thing I'm not keen on is the mk3 instrument panel, other than that it's pretty much bang on. Excellent purchase I reckon. Cheers, Richard.

Cracking project you got there azz. Some great work going into this, your rapid progress puts mine to shame. I dunno whether you are aware, but ideally the harnesses should be mounted at a shallower angle, ie higher up. The normal method is to have lateral bar running between the rear cage legs or a rear strut brace. Ideal angle is supposed to be around 10 degrees. How have you found the quality of welding on the PPS subframe/ wishbone setup? If you can it pays to gusset the chassis legs where they meet the bulkhead. It is a known weak point once you start putting any serious power through these, even more so with a grippy chassis setup. Keep us updated with this mate, I love it.

I have never seen them with these wheels. The tire could use some air... ...only at the bottom.

The symptoms you have described sound like a classic case of a worn out clutch. If the clutch is badly worn, the pedal will be low and its travel short. A contaminated clutch however would retain a normal pedal travel and feel. There is a plastic inspection plug on the top of the bellhousing, right over the flywheel. If you remove the cap you might be able to see if there is any obvious oil contamination. It is probably worth replacing the cable first though as a matter of course.

Southern Carburetters were pretty good when they were at Wimbledon. I can't see on the website if they have a rolling road though.

I've just found B D Engineering in Sittingbourne, Kent. Have a look at their website, they look promising.

Yeah, good work going on here Frankie. Glad to hear you are ok and that the Cortina will be back on the road soon. Keep us posted with the progress. Cheers, Richard.

Yeah, Robin is right - part of the bulkhead is different on the mk3 to allow for the servo. 99% of the RHD Mk2 Polo's you'll find won't have servo'd brakes, simply because they weren't officially offered. However, LHD versions did have a servo. With plenty of room above the gearbox the servo was quite big too. I have fitted a Mk3 Polo bulkhead panel and pedalbox to my Mk2.

You want 185/50's for the correct rolling radius. It'll look great on those Golf steels especially refinished in silver. I had one of the very last G40's registered - on an M plate and finished in black. It had a dealer fitted from new electric tilt and slide glass sunroof too!

175/60's are the correct size for 5 1/2" x 13" rims. That is the size fitted to the G40 models. How is it for clearance on the rear arches? Really looking nice mate.

Lovely car richie. Unusual to find a really tidy and original example. I like it on the OE wheels and the second set too. However, those Ronals will look the absolute business. What size and offset were the OE wheels?

That's lovely, looks just like the one I had some 18 years ago. I totally rebuilt mine up from a 1600 Sport base, fitted a 180 BHP 2.1 pinto on twin 48 Dellortos with all the RS alloy engine mounts, sump and bellhousing etc. Vented discs, Bilsteins, single leafs, Panhard rod, LSD etc it really was a high spec road car for its time. Full RS dash, black fishnet Recaros and so on inside. Outside was just like yours too, white body with matt black trim but with silver 6" Minilites. It was a minter and cost me a fortune even in those days. With the spec. and condition mine was in it'd probably be worth more than £15k now. If only I still had it.

Lovely looking MK3 Trigger. This is just begging for the bodywork to be tidied and given a full and proper respray. I know the front seats aren't OE but they look pretty good to me. How about recolouring all the seats in blue?

Had a good chat with Paul on Thursday at the 8 Ball Diner. It's great to see he uses this properly too, despite it being so immaculate. I've always loved a good 911, and this is a beauty. It really is a minter, everything is just right on this one. Bang on stance, wheels, colour, trim deletes and graphics. Love it! Sounded the dogs whatsits too. Unfortunately Paul's foot must of slipped in the footwell and got caught on the throttle when he left the carpark! It led to all sorts of tailwagging and rather a lot of wheelspin. ;D
