Mu ha ha mine are paid for collecting tomorrow.
Could go sweet talk the store guys to see if they'll put the offer though, as they price matched online in store for me.

I'm tempted by the three boxes for £350 deal too, I have a perfectly good smaller red Halfords box setup but the depth of the black ones looks useful, more storage for no more floor space used up.

Yeah there was one, but the engine bay doesn't look like it's a turbo to me, I will confirm!

Preferably 5sp manual, 2.3 turbo (LPT is OK), estate
Some MOT is a must

Ha ha that's how I generally look at these things! So I think the big circlip that holds the whole shaft into the casing wasn't ever seated properly. The end float must have been taken up by the gears hitting each other. Nice. Rebuilding hopefully with no new parts required so fingers crossed it sorts it.

Haha see how brave I am if it ever works again. Between the Quaife final drive and diff there's too much money in the box to be swapping it out!
Plus I've killed 3rd synchros on 2 second hand boxes already, haha.

Ooer its the bearing moving in the casing. Strip down required to work out why!

I compared it to my spare cluster and the output shaft was sitting out way further than the other (to the point the 2 gears in the middle were actually almost touching eachother) So I smacked it with a rubber mallet and it moved in to look like the spare cluster! I assume the small washer that sits behind the 5th gear cog on the output shaft (to left of this picture) controls the end-float: This slides over the shaft on the right here before the gear goes on it's little bearings:

Thanks colnerov, quick answer. The Vauxhall guys weren't really sure what was going on. Waveman1500 the soundtrack is brought to you by R1 carbs and Quaife 4.2 straight cut final drive! Why wait to the future, I have it stripped for inspection already... It has 2 large bearings in the casing which hold the shafts in place, but I am not 100% sure if they are responsible for the endfloat or not. I guess I can try hammering it either way and seeing what kind of movement there is.

Hey chaps
Got a weird problem with my gearbox, it's a Vauxhall FWD set up (2.0XE with F20 in a Nova)
When I rev or let off there's a nasty kick back out of the selector turret rod, which results in the gearstick jolting in the car. It's 100% coming from the internals and not from a dodgy engine mount or movement.
I pulled the selector turret off and ran it up on axle stands, and you can see the selectors moving around when you rev and let off. Quite a bit.
Any ideas what could cause this?
Video of the selector movement when driving, you can see it jerk in and out:

Interested in any Nova bits or 2.0 XE parts! Or any dealer signs would look great in my garage! Good on you saving the parts.

Rode one around Santa Pod for most of the day at a Mini show a year or two back and they are pretty fun.
