I'm new to this forum and read this start to finish and just like to say what great work you're doing, theres a rotten one of these near my house and I'd love to see it restored as you certainly don't see them often! Thanks for an evenings entertainment love the mini too! Thank you! I have good memory of an olive one I passed every day on the way to shool - and I always wanted it. Badly! I'd totaly forgotten about it, untill some weeks ago I saw that on the same spot now resides a W124 estate But I guess that was probably why I had the urge to buy the Tea - my subconscious kept that old urge ;D Anyway; couldn't do much today. Was verry hot and humid - feel like a drained battry today. I hate that muggy weather - can't stand it (literally ;D). And then all got better and - it got very windy. So not much welding possible. Enough of the excuses... Shocking price tag: Had to modifie a screw clamp to hold it in place (too lazy to drill holes for Clecos): And all welded up and the bonnet hinge pocket adjusted - surprisingly it slotted right in and needed only minimal adjusting. Nice! I feared it would take whole the day... And that's all for today... Cheers, Jan

Hi! Didn't do anything on saturday - except a 700km trip in a Smart to collect some freebies (Mini engine, a very rare SU carb and some small stuff). And today - dear god! 32° in the shaddow... Not good for welding with long sleeves and thick jeans... My plan for today was weld up the hinge pocket, weld up the a-pillar connecting panel and prime everything. Only got as far as welding the hinge pocket... Sealed the gaps with a mixture of Brantho Korrux paint & Owatrol Oil (rust preservant and mixable with paints). Looks a bit messy, as I set some additional tacks, just to make sure. And trial-fitted the wing. I'm happy with that panel gap Very happy, to be precise Cheers, Jan

G'day! Welded up the A-pillar connecting panel today. And then the big moment came - I lowere the Tea back on it's wheels after - forever And ready to roll out... ...and I'm very happy I did push it back in. As it started to storm. And rain. And lightning struck. And this fell from the sky: That's the biggest hail corns I've seen - ever. Ever. Ever. Not to think if the Tea would've been standing outside allready... Cheers, Jan PS: I'm going to fix the Mini next, I need a daily again

I think your weather is broken, you should get in touch with whoever supplies it.
Tea is looking good now, got to be a relief to have it back on four wheels again.

I think your weather is broken, you should get in touch with whoever supplies it. Tea is looking good now, got to be a relief to have it back on four wheels again. And worst of all; the weather brought the crushed ice too late... Coke was empty allready... Yes, big relief! As I'm reliefed of any pressure now. The Tea is in the other carport and the caravan is off the street. Good thing I lowered the pavement more than I first planned - the bonnet is a bit tall when fully opned ;D And yesterday I finaly cought the bug to do some work again. So I started to seal all panel joints & overlapping panel gaps with sealant. After the sealant settled & dryed out, I applied a coat of primer. Before sealing the joints, I flooded them with a mixture of primer & Owatrol Oil (a paint additive & thinner with good rust protection properties - also soaks into & isolates any rust that might have been there). And now I'm waiting for a big order of more Owatrol Oil and FluidFilm to conserve any cavities and the sills & pillars. And then it'S time for paint, stone chip - and then this corner willbe finished and I can move onto the next one... *ARGH!* ;D Cheers, Jan

Couldn't resist to apply a bit of colour... Unfortunately the can was a bit empty so only got the hinge pocket painted. Think for the rest I'm going to the painter's and order a tin of paint. Cheers, Jan

Worst thing with this sort of restoration is that you end up being the only person that knows it's been done. That last photo makes my eyes feel weird.

Good work mate - I'm definitely feeling the W124 wagon love! One will have to be on the cards soon for me!
I'd definitely recommend trying to fit an OM606 engine to your W123, especially if you can try and swing the TD from a W210!

Thanks guys! I try my best... I'd definitely recommend trying to fit an OM606 engine to your W123, especially if you can try and swing the TD from a W210! I'm with you. However it'S going to be a hassle with emissions vs. TÜV. And if I end up paying for a 3.0l diesel without any emissions classification... That's a bit over 3€ a day just for tax (1127€/year)! And with a OM606 it certainly wont get historic plates... That's why I'm going to stick with the original 3.0 OM617 & historic plates (191€ per year) And I'm not after a fast car anyway... Cheers, Jan

Wooo! These turned up in the post today Only need Bosch headlight units to go with them, as they don't fit my Hellas. The one is a bit dull and bleached, but I hope I can get it shiney again. Any tips welcome I love yellow fog lamps Cheers, Jan

Long time no update... Well, I lost a bit mojo for the Tea. Mainly due to... well, I don't know. Just had to have a break. But today - I reached out to test the water, see if my mojo would come back. And I think - it's slowly coming back. Some may have read my other recent threads... Now that MY car doesn't get to be MY car - I'm actually thinking about going full throttle and put the money into the Tea and make it ready for MOT, preserve it with all sorts of greases, oils and waxes and drive it through winter Nah, probably not... ;D Anyway. Mojo tester: I think it's coming back Btw: ignore the half welded in patch - I'm going to re-do that one next. I sort of broken it up and left it... Cheers, Jan

Hi! No work done, but a bit of part hunting... A mate is breaking a T for spares (what a beautifull car! But oh so rotten to the core...), so I put my finger on some stuff... Some random stuff, unbroken drains, vac connectors etc. And two outer vents with this dead cool "turn to adjust" feature. It's so cool that I want all 4 dashboard vents to have it ;D Could play with them all day long ;D And, original rear speakers & volume splitter Not HiFi, but does indeed sound good with rear speakers My W124 T has them too, much better than only front speakers. Cheers, Jan

Work on that motivation... you're doing a great job on this so please carry on!
Old Volvos are my favourite but I love old Mercs as well. My 'sensible daily driver' is a 1986 500SEL and it makes me smile every day!

Thanks guys! Good to get positive feedback, appreciate it. Good motivation Colonelk: yes! It's all in the smal details; some obvious, some not so. And that's what makes a car interessting indeed. Smal (& of course big) personalizations (yuk, I don't even know if you could use that word in german!? ;D) Speaking of which; I'm itching to do more work, but my welder is still 70km away. At least a new diff for my working horse (the 124 Tea) is on it's way to me. In other news, the Mini does very well, only had 8 breakdowns so far (lack of current due to bad connections... Lucas!! Bad boy!) Cheers, Jan
