It all equates to the same as my opinion of touchscreen phones and computers. Untill they can get it to work reliably! They shouldnt be forcing it on us as the best thing since sliced bread. Haha! The iPhone being the only exception to this rule! Nope, all iBore devices are dodgy, touch screens are no match for buttons with good breakout forces. Anyway, back on point: I seem to be the rare breed who has never had a prob with the DVLC/DVA/DVLA in all of the time I've owned cars - But I've kept all of my tax discs, SORNS and receipts, just in case...

Take some advice from somone who has had a lot of dealings with the DVLA, forget swansea, go to your nearest office and sort it there! Never had a problem at the local (Boreham wood) office, allways nice people who actualy know thier job! yeh I know I was surprised to the first time I visited ;D

The problems seem to occur with Swansea, it seems.

Yup, Chelmsford is my local office, they know what they are doing and since they moved it, its even easy to park and the queues are pretty short.

I would echo what's been said above. Swansea are run by incompetant muppets who don't know/couldn't give a toss about you and your problems Local office, much more helpfull.
I went to Northampton office expecting a run around when I went to put a personal reg on a newly bought motor.
Waited 40mins to be seen. Within 10 mins of being seen, I was back out the door, reg transfered, all paperwork present and correct, new mot, tax disc and certificate of entitlement to get new plates made.
I was pleasantly surprised.
Dad phones DVLA swansea several times for more than 30mins each time to get license renewal (over 70) and failed each time to get anywhere. They even 'lost' his application and had to send a temporary license to cover him whilst abroad !
Never leave anything to chance when dealing with swansea, and always assume the worst. Keep all correspondence and original documents. If you send anything by post, send it recorded delivery

I had the same problem last year when renewing the tax on my with my new motorhome on line. I must be lucky as a quick phone to Swansea sorted it. All of the data had not been carried over with the new ownership details. I was given the option to renew at the local post office or wait a couple of days for the details to be corrected and then renew online. Did the latter with no problems as it was before the due remewal date.

I had a problem just after MOTing my van last year. They said the VIN number on the V5 didn't match the details recorded at the last MOT, and could I return the form they enclosed with the VIN number from the VIN plate, from the MOT certificate and from the V5.
The MOT certificate and VIN Plate had one number, the V5 had one digit as a 2 instead of a 3.
I did as they said, and a week later got another letter saying they didn't believe that I'd actually taken the VIN number from the VIN plate, and to do it again.
So I did it again. Then I received a letter saying 'You need an updated V5, so send your old one in'. I was thinking 'Uh oh, they're going to send someone out and inspect it, and ask about the modifications', but they never did.
It hadn't been noticed for the previous four years because the first guy to MOT it in my possession must have used the V5 for the VIN number, and then every year after I'd taken the old MOT down, and they'd copied it off that. Until the final time when he actually took it from the VIN plate.
