Right heres the question,
I currently run a 2.8 capri, but I'm going to get rid of it and build a midget to a quick-ish spec.
Now what do i buy to run in the meantime?
Its got to be cheaper to run than the capri, cheaper to insure than the capri (bearing in mind I'm 18) and not be a comman hatchback.
Also cant cost more than 1K
any options considered.

4 door Mk2 Scrote'? Lob a 2.0l Pinto in there, half a days work Mk3/5 Cortina, can look great and have some half decent power behind you to.

Capri 2.0...
Mk5 Cortina should get a good one for that money. Mk4s are well rare now. Mk3s are getting pricey so you may not get as good a one for your money. But they are the nicest of the Cortinas. IMO
Other than that just keep looking on eBay...

£1000 does buy a lot of car! V true PMSL Welcome to the world of Retro Rides. In the "other world" people would be telling you that £1000 buys you F88K all, why not get a loan for £10K and buy something decent!! ;D ;D ;D

Check my sig....the Escort, Fiesta and Sapphire Ghia were all bought in the last year, all good solid cars (the Sierra and Fiesta both arrived T&T'd!), and the combined cost was under £1k. Enough change to tax the Fiesta and fill all three up with fuel, or put the Escort through an MOT!

This?! For sale in our local Autotrader, £600 and 54k from new. One owner, ziebarted, FSH. 12 months MoT, 6 months tax. Starlet 5dr? All the tuning potential of the 3drs but sleeper looks and cheap to run (37mpg+, and mine needs a service). Would sell you mine but I like it far too much. Acclaim is a good suggestion from rmad, check out Ishan's one for sale on here. TBH I wouldn't know where to start at a grand as there's so much that I like under that, my starting price for road cars is usually £25.....
