well i was away all weekend, at shakespeare county raceway doing some drifting, as usual most of the cars were overpowered bum mobile, 200sx's etc. but amongst the poop was a few gems, dave walbrins (mate of ratdats) sexy datsun laurel, 3years instorage, dragged it out, welded the diff and bobs your uncle fannys your aunt, also comes with L28 engine in img.photobucket.com/albums/v348/rx7dizzy2002/RS15.jpgi20.photobucket.com/albums/b226/Missysx/Driftscene/rotorstock/rotorstock_091.jpgwww.hiroboy.org/gallery/albums/uploads/Rotorstock06/drift/rotorstock-2006-drifting-102.JPGand there was myself i20.photobucket.com/albums/b226/Missysx/Driftscene/rotorstock/rotorstock_075.jpgi drove the absolute balls off the car, the lsd is seriously ..bad, but I'm making do with what ive got. it was fun, other cars in attendance, were an s12, couple of sierra's a volvo 340 1.7 (who has a company doing turbo beetles or somethimg, I'm going to steer him this way) and an e30. but i cant find any pictures of these cars yet. anyway it was good. got drunk, diffed it up, and had a laugh. i loved the laurel, me and dave were sitting next to each other in the queue and it was just cool being lined up alongside something as cool as a laurel that was being used for good as opposed to bangered or just sat doing nothing, we had a bit of a sound off to, big(ish) sixes sound good.

sweet several people asked me togo i passed it as been "oh it will be full of chavs" and cars with far to much plastic (aka to modern for my taste) exellent pics yeh i hate going to drifting events for the most parts i love the drifting and taking part, but mainly it does either get lumped in and attracts "chavs" or plasticy cars... rotorstock was good fun,but apparently there was some sort of pathetic male hormonal "gang " fight in the carpark in the early hours. yeh the laurel was sweet as, it just looked so cool. been in storage for 3years when dave put it away it was mint apparently but he put it away with dirt on it and it had got a bit scabby. there was till straw in back of car from the barn it had been in.

Lovin the pics, looks uber aggressive in a sideways pose methinks! As seen in NZ: img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img00876qt.jpgThere's a couple of Corolla KE70's doing the D1NZ circuit, one with a 3TGTE 1800 in it, the other (pictured) running a 4AGE with twin sidedrafts. There's a smattering of other retro-beasts, an AA60 Carina coupe, TE71 Levin liftback, there was an E30 I saw once (but it sucked) I've even got pics somewhere of an R30 Skyline liftback being drifted at Ruapuna alongside a B110 Datsun 1200 coupe. Mostly though, it's all Silvia's/Cefiro's/Laurel's/Skyline's in varying colour schemes.

Love that Laurel. I want one of them badly. If he decides to go for a bum mobile SX or whatever I'm on 07917 899062!

Great to see it back out again and Dave giving it some.
Been lucky enough to own two of those C130 Laurel saloons, brilliant coke-bottle lines and a really sinister hooded look to the front lights. Back end a bit late 60's Mercury Cougar.

I missed a minter a coupe of years ago, under 50K from new and unmarked everywhere. I wasnt going to pay £2K for it though. Maybe I should have. It was a S reg I think and a pale metallic green out Derbyshire way somewhere.

I think you will find that its a case of people adding there own bit to the story. As far as I know some guys in non japanese cars were spoiling for a fight after not being allowed to run. It was early afternoon and certainly was not gang related ! just a case of a small few causing a problem. The VAST majority of people were just out to have a good time and we had very few problems.

there are quite a few on mazdarotaryclub.com. I've not got any as I didn't get chance to get my camera out all weekend (was helping out trying to make sure everyone filled out forms so we knew who was who for the competition side of things) Looks like you had a good time in japan, did you pick up any bagains There was quite a poor turn out again from the non Mazda retro's ... would be nice to change that for next year Its no good complaining that theres never any retro cars at these shows if you don't turn up yourself its a vicious circle !

Picked up a bunch of magazines (which I'll be selling on this week) and a steering wheel ... most valuable thing I got was a few new friends! Yeah it is a vicious circle whenpeople wont go to shows because there are no retros, but then because they don't go it means there won't be any retros! Maybe we can whip things into shape for next year.

I don't think you'll ever get that many people drifting old skool cars, mainly because drifting beats the living curse word out of a car and at some point, you WILL crash it into something. I stated out using my 510 but went to a 200SX primarily because the 510 was really hard to drift and a poor car to learn in. Even now I'm competent at drifting I still wouldn't use it because I don't want to kill it though I expect I could drift it fine now. I will get another Datsun to use for drifting at some point but it'll be a stinky old heap that I don't mind battering.

Indeed. They are ubercool. And I bet panels and trim are hard to come by now.

Very difficult to get panels for that car. I've got a couple I found, a wing and a door, which I've saved for Dave should he need them. BTW, that Laurel used to be mine and it's far from a good example. It's had a lot of welding in it's time and is still pretty rusty. It's probably the sort of car I'd use for drifting too.
