1997: 2006: It had some bizarre fault stopping it from starting one day. I had fuel and spark but no running engine. And I spotted there was a nick in the timing belt so thought, best not try that again until I change the belt. Then the weather got a bit worse so I thought I'd better put the car under cover and deal with everything come spring. 9 years later... The reason the bonnet looks a bit funny is because the hinge one side has now rusted out of the inner wing... Poor old car...

It looks like you have created your very own "barn" find, you should send a pic into one of the classics mags, Practical Classics gives £10 for every pic printed which would go towards the restoration fund. It makes you realise how those stories of someone putting the car in a garage, planning on fixing it soon and then x years later someone finds it. What are your plans for it now? Hope your not going to leave it another nine years

I hope I don't get that effect in my barn museum! here's some footage taken there this weekend. Also unearthed this fuggin old thing, retro enough for you? Reckon i'm probably gonna slam it over some ATS cups (like pottery cups, from ATS the tyre shop) and matt black it (with roofing tar).

Blimey you kept that quiet Alistairk! Looks a gem, even now! My Escort had to spend 5 years in the driveway without cover, waiting for my enthusiasm to return. Its just how it has to be sometimes.

Yup, that would be a Vauxhall Victor. Its fitted with a 2.3 slant 4 out of a Magnum and has the 4 on the floor with an electric overdrive switched on 3rd & 4th. Very nice car to drive.
Its the same model as Red Victor 1.
Oddly enough its registered as a 1984 because the first owner took it off the road in about 1973 and the DVLA expired its log book when they computerised in 1982. It got put back on the road in 1984 so date of registration is 1984! Its is tax exempt though.
Engine bay is a good size, problem is that most yank V8s foul their exhaust manifolds on the steering column. Thats about the only fitting issue with a V8 in there.
The doors are shot, the rear arches are shot, it needs inner wings, the front wings are a little ropey now.
I think cars survive better in the open than under covers. A nice wood structure with plenty of drafts keeps them best. Concrete is the very worst as it breeds condensation and this rusts them out from the inside. Those car covers really cause some issues!

I hope you get that victor sorted alistairk, as the others said, your own barn find, like finding a washed tenner in your pocket and wondering how to get the shop to accept it!
One good reason i'm gonna try my damnedest to get take my purring 4age out for a few runs, its begging for it, how plans change.
keep us posted - good luck

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
