popuptoaster: I know their crazy spec safaricomp racers, but since i'm not competing I think the look could be done and still be able to do some gentle green laneing, I don't want just a padock car, small point to remember I'm useing rally gravel tyres which are much lighter then pretty much any 4x4 tyre if your planning any green lanes at all (by green lane i mean legal byway - not bridleways, footpaths, fields etc) then you need ground clearance under the car, adding bigger diameter wheels will only give a little lift under the car itself before things bottom out I run 31" diameter rims on my 4x4 and still catch the wishbones/bottom mounts on local lanes... Cracking idea tho and I've been thinking about jacked up cars recently too, only a couple of inches, high could defo be the new low!!!

I really like this for colour and general "hardness" But I can imagine this in a dark, matt colour with rally tyres and black rims with the bumpers removed like the photoshop you did on page 1

I love this idea, the roads our my way are so bad at the moment that I was thinking of getting Caddy shocks and tyre to get a bit of clearance in the DD. We don't seem have the same issue with greenlaning, there's plenty of countryside and forestry tracks to go round for everyone! I was thinkign that van shocks (from the Combo/Combi) van might suit as well? Keep up the good work, and be sure to post updates!

those three you posted up (Golf/Swift/Civic) work really well, I'm liking this idea more and more, such a break from the norm its refreshing, not that slammed cars are boring in the slightest, they rule. period.

Can't seem to post the links at work but this thread sounds a lot like the kind of modification that has been happening in 'Classic Reliability Trials' for the last 100 years or so.
Type that into YouTube or have a look at the ACTC (Assoc. of Classic Trials Clubs) website and see just how high a fwd Mk1 / 2 Golf can be made to climb an unsurfaced track .....
Completely agree though, given the state of the roads at the mo. the greater the ground clearance and higher the sidewalls are where it's at.

That looks cool, cheap and cheerful motorsport, don't s'pose i could run that in the Vitara 'cos its 4x4 though? could i take the front prop off it and have a go?

Indie, class 1 trials, looks the job, more grip and a winch and I reckon you'd have a go an almost anywhere car.

Yeah if you can run it in 2WD you'd be ok - they do it with Suzuki XC90s, just take a prop out (i think). They get put in Class 5, which is for sports cars - same class as my Dads TR7, and the Scimitar pictured above, which incidentally has a duratec in now. Its amazing fun, and has a really nice friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Some pics of Dads Sprint-engined TR7 ;D As with all motorsports, regs are very strict though Chevettes seem to be popular in the states for un-lowering

I was thinking about starting trials myself using a 300 series volvo (rwd) but things moved on.
As my SJ is off the road I've been using my corsa B round the lanes for roadside work, my mate parked it by a boulder that I didn't notice and I jumped in and drove over it and split the cat (arrgh) it performs ok in the mud though but the interior is now totally ruined.
Bear in mind that trials only allow road tyres, I imaging some mud tyres would make all the difference to any car in the right situation.
have fun and post it up whatever you do.
