One of the great things about buying CAR magazine in the 80's was the SCOOP! pics of upcoming cars in disguise in the street. Covers like this were classic 1980's CAR: This: IIRC, was part of a bigger set of features as to why CAR thought Mercedes were planning a FWD car. Prophetic, to say the least.

Ford Capri prototype. Am i the only one that prefers these side windows, which were changed at the last minute before the design was signed off because of testers comments about poor three-quarter visibility:

mystery (i cant remember, but I found it in my p/bucket) X19 or TR7 perhaps? Must be British Leyland, see the SU carb. Might be the Austin Zanda. Does look like an A series in the back. Thought it could have been the Midget replacements a couple of replacement minis that never made it the TR7 Lynx that never made it into production because they went out on strike again (and the factory was closed and production moved to Solihull)

One I used to own, Built by Austin works engineer Bill Cheetham as a project in his own time to show what could be built on a Devon platform, the car when I bought it was a derelict hulk with no roof, tree had fallen on the roof in the 89 storm, it was so rotton, with with brackets of fungus 18" long growing on the woodwork,

A 1981 Ford Cortina Mk5 estate used as a engine cooling system test mule for the then forthcoming 1983 Ford Sierra, hence the bizarre bumper and radiator grille arrangement, which looks like Sierra items. Note the FWD Escort steel wheels on a RWD car. They apparently also tested the Sierra's IRS on this too.

Not entirely sure what this is, but bizarre for sure. Found it whilst looking for the photos below... Here's what I really wanted! Corrado estate. Personally, I quite like it. Note Audi 80 avant rear lights and roof bars.
