I'm clearly missing a trick here. The question of whether to go all the way out to Germany to purchase a 2.0ltr Pinto ( Granada lump......well worked then) powered 5 speed Escort Estate spunker clunker that is, by its description, not a minter, with an iffy interior but lowered and some smart wheels should ellicit the response of "not bloody lightly" but instead its got people creaming their pants. Why? PS: I'm fairly sure that the plates that can be seen on it are not the usual ones you would expect. Are they transitional plates? Is it being sold because of the aggro of trying to get it legal out there ( they are notorious for being VERY strict on ANY mods) and will that mean that you will get grief sorting out the paperwork there??

Why? In many way, Robmajorca, you are absolutely right, it's a crazy daft idea. Why go all that way for a not-100% lhd load lugga! BUT! The way that particular car has been done is 100% spot on in my book. It is everything that retro should be about, and also an ideal multipurpose retro car The wheels, the stance, the black bonnet etc. etc. all absolutely perfick in my eyes. And here's another thing - it may not be a concours car, but when was the last time you saw an escort wagon that wasn't rotten to the core? There must only be a few left in that kind of nick AND packing some spec in the whole of europe. That car was the motivation behind me buying this: However I quickly realised that turning a £500 escort into my dream wagon (complete with power to match the looks) was a tall order for a mechanically inept donkey like myself - it just wasn't going to happen unless I got the pro's in, something that was beyond my budget at the time, & I sold the car to Rev Dick Dee-luxe - someone who can & will do it justice. So now the opportunity presents itself to own THE ONE, the inspiration, something fabled in the halls of RR.... so why the heck not go for it - you only live once!* * - and that life probably won't be very long once I tell the missus I have to go 900 miles to get my latest toy ;D

Well put, if its what you want, what you really really want! then go for it I didn't believe asconadaz was gonna go through with it - but he did! for the record my dad always recons the brand new mk2 escort he bought pre me was the worst car he ever went for but tell that to the escort boys and the crazy prices of these things here now!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Well the current situation is this... i have bid this one: To the max point whereby I can afford to pay someone esle to put it all together for me after the purchase price... but have failed to meet the reserve. So therefore I will wait to see the outcome of that (i.e if no-one else bids, make the guy a cash offer), and if that all goes tits up, flop some dinara on the germa nfinished product. Does that make sense?
