Been working on the steering column. Looks like I'm going to end up with x4 universal joints. It's bloody tight and I'm on about version 3. Got two of the joints in posistion so they turn free and a support. Going to have to put alan head bolts on and recess them into the UJ's and tap the other end of them as there's no room for bolt heads. Probably also put a 5mm spacer on the engine mount to give me a bit more to play with. Also been rounding off some of the UJ's. Also the long boat from China with my wheels is not going to be here for about another month! Bloody pirates better not get them. Also got my new rear and front springs and a set of poly bushings for the whole thing. Got the front fitted and I'm now nice and low but will hopefully have the back done at the weekend if I finish the steering... Anyway steering pics time:

Is it not possible to try the rack and column from a Rubber bumper car? I can give you a collapsible column off one car to aid the cause if you are nearby.

Hi ChasR. Unfortunately due to my "great idea" of fitting the engine in so low and using the headers I've got and the placement of my engine mounts the steering has to snake through the engine bay. I have however today just finished mounting it all! Hopefully I have enough room there but I'll need to have the engine running properly to see if it moves to much and fowls it.
Also got my suspension bit which I might fit this weekend if I have time.

Christ that is a bit tight but to be fair i never found my v8 to 'rock' much (when i had the 3.5 fitted) just get some decent v8 mounts and you can also fit a 'steady bar' which should stop any movement so you should be fine

I think she need to go down an inch or so at the rear. I've got 1 inch lowering block but I recon I'm going to have to source some 2 inch. Never seen a 2 inch lowering block for a MGB so I guess I'll have to try and see if some escort ones will fit.. Rear (Arches will need to be cut to the line like the font ones are): Front:

Looking good, as for the ride height at the rear they will settle quite a lot once you have put some miles on it. I 'think' mine were 'race' rear leaf springs from moss and it was running at this height,

Yup, the lowering springs from MG Motorsport or Moss with Superflex Bushes really do give you the right rear end on these . It was not harsh at all surprisingly! About 2.5" they lower the 'B by (They certainly dropped the rear on mine by quite a bit). If you need some super low front springs PM me . I may have a new unused set in the 'Lowered - Road spec' (About the lowest springs you can buy from people (the 32.5mm springs from Moss).

Thanks for the advice guys! Unfortunately ChasR I've gone and got a set of front springs already which were race spec. How do you find yours handles with the 2.5" drop and do you push it to its limits? I'm guessing my car is going to be a horrible ride on the road but I want something that is just for me and I don't care about suffering on the road he says at the moment... My latest bit of work has been modifying the gearbox mount. The ends of the mount were like swiss cheese so I made up some new ones. Measure up some new bits so they over lapped the olde metal so they could be welded on both sides. I could bend the first bits with the rubbish bender! The return bend involved some careful persuasion with a large mallet and a vice and some heaving! Then some trimming of the newly welded bits. I also made up some plates to weld into the chassis rails, with some nut welded on. I should have made these a bit bigger which would have made welding them in a bit easier as the nuts are pretty close to the edges. This means the holes that the nuts sit in the chassis legs are going to be pretty accurate so I don't end up with holes at each end. I might just make some new plates... Welded the other side. Also managed to mount the pedals. I'm going to need to do allot of boxing in as the pedals are a good 200mm further in and I've needed to cut through the fire wall to mount where the master cylinders go. I've also just purchased a twin master cylinder setup which will had a dash mounted adjustment! SWEET!! I've also sent my two prop-shafts down to www.propshaft-services.co.uk to get them made into one. By the start of next week I should have all the bits (apart from a couple of bits for the cooling) to make it move and stop. Unfortunately till no word on my Rota RB-X's

Honestly speaking, I was surprised with how my MGB handled! Hoopsontoast will confirm this as would my new car's owner. In the corners it was direct and they could be taken at speed. Compared to before, the rear was much more predictable and controllable too, despite having 225/50R15 tyres all round. As for the ride, whilst it was firm, it was still an improvement from a Stock 'B over speed bumps etc. The motorway was where I could tell the biggest difference. Whereas in a stock Rubber bumper GT would handle like a boat on the motorway and an chrome bumper be an improvement but IMO still not quite right this stuck on the motorway beautifully even at 80-90mph (abroad...). When I dropped it off, my dad (who was following me) said it seemed more planted on the motorway than a normal 'B and was surprised to not see me stuck in the first lane! However, to get there was not cheap. I heard horror stories of cheap poly bushes, so went with the trusted Superflex items (thet did strike the balance right), and lowering springs without the blocks (I was planning to go with V8 power and wanted it to corner well). Yes, I was quite pleased with the outcome of the handling of my 'B in the end .

It's looking good jarvis483! But soon there will be not reason for photoshoping as my sexual 17"x9.5" ET-19 RB-X's are in the post! Christmas has come early!!
Also got my propshaft back and almost finished my twin brake master cylinder setup. Should have some nice stance pics next week if I can source a couple more tires.
