as for cleaning the chain the correct term would be "ex wifes" if you put it in the dishwasher!!! for repairing the subframe I would suggest cutting off the "adjusted" sections and weld in straight tube with the ends flattened for the bolt mountings. regarding the seat, its a shame you arnt local to me as I have access to the cushions from a few office chairs that were scrapped (black vinyl cover and 3" thick foam) couple of suggestions for the points cover, the bottom of a saucepan (if you can get away with chain in dishwasher the theft of a pan wont matter) or an old style hubcap cut down. unless the dampers are leaking just pull the springs off then clean and paint ttfn glenn you probably have this but if not here is a bantam club for you bsabantamclub.11.forumer.com/index.php?sid=16f80dcf73d5d5ff115a0b08dcf251b2I am liking your thinking more and more. ;D Thanks for the suggestions. Well, not much progress yet, as there are loads of other things keeping me busy. Last night I had about an hour in the garage, so I managed to feed the chain through the front sprocket, spray all the nuts and bolts. My nieghbour had popped over for a while, and watched me try to get the sparkplug undone..... using an old spanner I had, with a 12 inch pipe for extra leverage. All I managed to do was to snap the porcelain head on the plud, and tear the metal of the old spanner, but not move the plug, he then fetched his one spanner, which still made no difference. Who knows? Could the plug and the ally of the head have fused together over the years, or could oxidation have taken this to a point where they are a fused unit ? If so, what is the next step, as I am not a fan of excessive force. The other thing I quickly assembled (still to be tested) was a "paddock stand" which is fitted on a pair of stove moving wheels/castors so that I can plonk the bike on there and start disassembling at some point. I hope it works, as the bike obviously has no side or centre stand

The 'stand' is looking good. I'm guessing you've tried soaking the plug in WD-40 or something similar(?). Is it possible to take the top end off completely? If it come's off you might be able to leave the whole top end in soak for a few days.

If it come's off you might be able to leave the whole top end in soak for a few days. Thanks, still need to try the stand out, was called in to have my dinner as I put the last nail in last night. The plan is to get the whole head off, and invert and then do the whole soak ahain, as well as chucking something down the bore, of the piston is low enough.

Sounds like a plan, I've used a 50/50 mix of engine oil & paraffin to flush aircooled engines in the past. If you can free it up so it turns it might be worth doing the same to help clear any crud that might be inside. Fill it up with this mixture to the top (full) and turn it over manually, repeat this for a week or so (that's what I did) then drain the mixture out, I was amazed by the amount of cack that came out.

Sammy Miller was a trials bike legend from years back. The part you have bearing his name will probably come from a range of accessories you could buy that bore his name. Can't remember if he had his own shop or it was just a range of his stuff with his name on.

Hallo Jonny, I love bobbers and cafe racers, but in this case, the first objective after getting it all working, would be to use it off road as a small trials bike.

Can't remember if he had his own shop or it was just a range of his stuff with his name on. He does have a shop, and also a museum. I was under no illusion that the number board was anything more than a number board, just nice to see his name on it.

For those of you who know how to interpret engine and frame numbers..... here you go. Here are some pics and the numbers I found. Engine number : ED7B 1069 Frame number at the rear of the frame, below the engine mount. Frame number: 90 4315 (looked like 9D 4316 at first) Carburetor has a series of numbers as well, some on the pic, and more on the other side. Amal Carburetor number: 376/300 4 66 Also hoiked it onto the "paddock stand" or is that garage stand. Works a treat, stable and holds the bike. Lastly, removed one of the shocks to measure up for Timolgra. Pic taken next to measuring tape for clarity. Shock - Spring: 8" Long, 2" Diameter. Shock Body total length - 13" Body mounting hole centres @ 11 3/4" Shock mounting points - 1" wide with rubber bushes inside.

I would say, based on the engine number alone, this is a 1959 with direct electrics, take not, there is no battery on this bike. Thanks Hairnet.
