I do this route when I've got a night off sometimes. 3-4am, no 5-0, no one else on the road and straight through the forest of dean.  |

I go around the local lanes I cycled as a kid. In fact there is one favorite lane I manage to drive every time I go shopping, DIY store etc that is only a mile away.
I should add I have mobility problems so driving is the only way I can explore even places near to me now.

I live in the middle of Surrey so basically between 6am and 10pm most roads round here are so full of congested traffic it's like being in a huge car park  That said, half an hour sees you over the border into Sussex or Hants and there are some great routes to and from the south coast. |

Currently driving a Renault Wind Gordini as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

I have the Woodhead and snakes pass within about 15 minutes of my house, The cat and fiddle about 30. Little bit further out gets us onto the moors or peak district, Or lake district if your happy to do a bit of motorway. We usually do a loop up through glossop, snakes pass, back down through woodhead and then off up across towards halifax. Went across the snake fairly late on the way home from collecting my old Manta Exclusive Coupe a few years ago  Did the woodhead pass when I got the Silvia but an accident at the glossop end meant a 3 hr crawl in mega traffic Before I moved south, like. |

I popped out a bit earlier and did the route I mentioned on the last page. My "I'm bored lets drive" moods don't really follow a specific route...
I usually end up picking a mate up and playing the turn left game.
Or going to find a tunnel.
The most memorable one though was when a friend decided we should drive to Cornwall to free Pirate Pascoe... (He was driving) Somehow, we ended up in Lyme Regis 6 hours later, after driving to Portsmouth and trying to follow the coast. Bad plan. Quick pint, drove home, somehow coming back through Andover.
Memories. Saw a Tickford Capri though, happy days.
The next day his radiator disintegrated.

Ha, the left-right game... no matter what route you take, where you start from, so long as you begin south of Bristol you will at some point go through Wedmore in somerset. I think there's some sort of Bermuda Triangle effect in place around Wedmore.

Having lived in the peak district all my life and now only being as far away as Macclesfield, it'd be almost impossible to work out a route without leaving out some awesome roads. So I find I tend to just drive. As my mate Dave used to say when we 'just drove' "Magical mystery tour!". Hed just shout left or right at a junction! Oh although when I lived in Peak Forest the little lane that runs off toward the hope valley had a little hump half way along that in something light like a mini with enough speed...
Anyway, the cat and fiddles less than 2 minutes from my house but now its all covered with average speed cameras its more fun watching the bikers sit at exactly 50! Oh and woodhead ftw! especially if you turn off up that massive hill that comes down into Holmfirth.

NW Leicestershire has some quite good driving roads around Beacon Hill just off jct 22 of the M1 but you cant beat Derbyshire Peaks for a good blast.
