not car related i know, but i think quite a few of us also ride bikes. i had just gone out for a blat on my husky this afternoon, and was reaching some (ahem) moderate speeds when the engine made some weird noises.result- total seisure at nearly 90 mph the rear wheel locked solid and i skidded down the carriageway for about a quarter of a mile i still cant believe i stayed upright.anyway what amazed me the most was that the fact not a single person stopped to see if i was o.k. even though it was as busy as hell.i guess the milk of human kindness doesn't exist anymore...............

btw how much is an X5 mirror ;D £220ish +VAT just for glass...... I legged it up the road to see what happened to my neighbour when he binned his cbr600 at the top of the road. heard him from the house on new years eve (fuggin slippery), he gave it a fistful, and high sided it inside 100 yards, outside a packed pub. no-one came out. it was only me and my old chap that rushed to his aid. owt as strange as folk.....

You're lucky man, very lucky, a similar thing happened to me a few years back, whilst on my NSR (MC21), except I woke up in the hospital and the only reason I know what happened is because my brother was riding behind me on his NSR (MC18) to this day I still have absolutely no recollection of what happened, I have memory to about 4 kms before it all and then the hospital, huge section missing. Lucky for me my brother was there and also a few other people stopped. Glad you're OK.

Sounds like you did an excellent job of keeping the bike under control! i hope you bought a lottery ticket last night?! as your luck seems to be in... When i spun my e30 BMW on a very busy A-road island due to oil/deisel on the road, i did a full 180 spin at about 30 mph ended up slamming into the curb sideways facing the wrong way and came to stand still on the pavement just missing several lamp posts. Do you think anyone stopped to see if I was okay? nope everyone just carried on and it was obvious that i was in trouble, hazards were on, two flat tyres and facing the wrong way on a pavement

What a great balencing act! Glad you're ok mate, the skills and balls paid off on this one. Bikers seem to be the enemy, public think you're (we're) badduns, police were making up stories when a dozy driver pulled out on my dad last year, didhimself in rotten, still no sympathy, sadly!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

cheers guys!guess the road being wet had a lot to do with keeping it on two wheels.just rang my local bike shop-apparently husky parts are eye wateringly expensive,so looks like the plans for the variant will be on hold for a few more weeks

I think a lot of people are a bit scared of helping, I always want to stop when I see people on the side of the road/motorway, but I'm worried to because I'm a young lass. Wear a wig, plenty of people stopped for me when I hedge dived in the Skud.

Forgot to add- glad you're okay and nothing too bad came of it, did you find out what caused it? My mate once drove straight into the side of a Transit at 40mph on a twist and go because the throttle stuck open. Luckily he was okay and the van driver said a long as the door still opened he wasn't bothered about the boy+moped shaped dent in the side.

On the A34 once a peugeot 206 had a blowout about 4 cars ahead of us and span. The whole dual carriageway stopped for about 30 secs while several guys hopped out of their cars, pushed the 206 over to the side and then everyone carried on! It appear that no one gave a damn about the woman in the car!

to be fair, before my sister was traveling along the A19 in her 106. she hit a nail and the tyre went flat but she didnt relise until she was driving along on the rim. when she noticed she pulled over to get it sorted. a man in a car followed in behind her and asked if everything was ok and then changed the wheel for her. so it's not all bad in this world. jenn is right though. i think a lot of people don't want to stop and help people becuase they are worried about what people might think or acuse them...
