I bought this last summer for a cool old skool cruiser. However I have recently realised that I don't actually have a complete working bike for mooching around on, so i'm looking for a swap or a px (money either ways) for either some sort of race bike / road bike / modern commuting type thing, or I could be tempted into a shopper or a folding bike. Or of course, something really cool and old skool. Ill take some more pics on the weekend, but heres one from last summer. The cones need tightening up on the back wheel (10 min job) and the brake cables have both snapped so need replacing. I bought it ratty and have just cleaned it and waxed it to prevent further rusting. I bought 2 new tyres and inner tubes. Just thought i'd gauge some interest, although I might just end up fixing it and using it. It owes me about £80 in all. Joe

Fix it and use it I say! 3spd hub, dynamo lights, chainguard and sprung saddle make it absolutely perfect for everyday riding - and you won't find those features on many modern bikes either.

Even has the hard to find toggle chain still on What code is yours? Any good to ride with? I'm used to just sticking to three speed and changing the gearing about to suit. Now ive just gotta remember how to lace a wheel to put it on my lenton lol

Well mine doesnt go into 4th, so i cant quite say how good it is, but hopefully i will be able to strip it down and clean it sometime this year (if my umpteen thousands of cars don't get in the way )

Pulled the bikeout of the garage last night and into my flat. I'm gona fix it up and use it i think, it is a really cool thing in the flesh. Pics: I'm after some new brakes for this, anyone got a decent set of Wennmanns or similar for sale? The cables both snapped on mine and i don't think you can buy new ones?! Also want a rack on the back to carry my beer, anyone got one? Bought some sit up and beg handlebars, the originals are slightly bent and far too narrow for me, they will look like this: Blatent MOJO booster post FTW! Joe

What's the brake drop like (measure from centre of rim to centre of brake pivot).
I have a pair of deep drop pressed steel calipers from a Raleigh town bike. They use normal modern cables. One of them is a quite rusty, the other one is just slightly rusty. You can have them for postage if you like. If not it's easy to find old Weinmans on ebay, Type 500s are pretty good and use a nut fitting unlike some later recessed-fitting (that would require to drill fork hole out slightly)

Had a quick look at the brake drop last night, looks to be circa 70mm
Put my bars on last night as well, much better, so need to find some nice grips now.

Drop on mine is 60-100mm so they should fit fine. I've left one at my girlfriend's house - I'm going up on Thursday so I'll PM you when I find it, then if you want them I'll post them on Friday.
Also I think I'm right in saying that Raleigh steel handlebars were a very slightly narrower diameter than any other bar - a tiny difference like .3mm or something - therefore it's probably a good idea to put a small radius on the egdes of the stem clamp with some emery paper to stop them biting into the bar as it flexes. Then just spread the stem clamp with a screwdriver and install the bars as normal.
And get some Proofide on that saddle pronto!

Lae that would be excellent if you could!! Let me know dude.
The bars were actually a pain to fit! You are right, the raleight ones were a few mm narrower in diameter, and thus it proved quite a task when trying to put the bolt back through the stem with the wider bars. Ended up "persuading" a longer bolt through with a hammer lol then just tightened the stem round the bars. Although i may run a file or some emery paper as you say, just to prevent any damage to the bars.
Ah i was thinking of just putting some shoe polish on it!! Never heard of proofide but just looked it up and it looks like good stuff! I adjusted the saddle slightly last night (i kept sliding forwards last time i rode it), but it still doesnt seem particularly comefy to sit on.
I fi get time i think i'll indulge in a bit of painting of the chainguard this weekend. Probably just matt black (although i might ask a friend to put some pinstriping on at some point!)
Cheers again,
Joe

Proofide is the best stuff for leather saddles really, and it's not that much more expensive than shoe polish either. Most polishes and treatments tend to soften the leather, which is fine for shoes but it will eventually make a 'hammock' saddle (i.e. a strip of leather suspended between two points, rather than a leather cover on a foam base) sag down in the middle. Proofide also smells great (IMO).

Yep some older racks attach to the brake bolt at the top, although that one looks like it might clamp around the seatstays. Or you could get a cheaper modern one and attach it to the seatstays with P-clips.
