This is my Tomos A3 moped Last saturday I was looking on ebay, and I found this moped with 5 mins left and only at £13, and it was only 30 miles from where I live, I thought it was too good to miss, so I put a max bid of £35 and 5 mins later it was mine! Ebay ad: cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180611848891&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:ITSo the next day I went down to pick it up, and managed to fit it in the back of my MK4 Escort lol. Got home and after about 3 hours of taking bits of and polishing later, it looked like this: I tried to get it running but after some investigation, I found that the carb has no float or main jet in it , but i've now managed to track down another carb for it, so should have it up and running soon. The plan for this is to make it like a racer style moped, hence the removal of mudguard, lights etc. So I tought to make it more racy looking, this seat could do with some lowering... Bit high isn't it? So marked up cut and back on Just got to weld the flat part of the rear seat post back on to finish now. Updates tomorrow

That is a really good win off Ebay.
Well done, look forward to the evolution.

Cut from the ad;
"it did run last summer but has been left all winter and havent tried but shouldnt need much to have it running again"
Someone nicked the mainjet over the winter then. ;D Seriously though that's a bargain, best buy I've heard anyone get on eBay for ages.

They nicked the fuel pipes as well lol. Today's progress has been painting and finishing off the seat lowering. Painted shocker springs and engine: Cut off old seat post: Welded on the original bit I cut off, and sprayed on some red oxide: Seat modification it done now and the new posistion is more comfortable. I've got a carb on its way, along with a new spark plug, plug cap and atf fluid, so I should have it running this weekend.

Got some more updates Today's progress... Decided i'm going to run it without the indicators, so i took off the indicator switch and wiring: Then tidied the wiring loom up: And this is how it stands at the moment: I've cut the front mudguard shorter, as all the puch maxi racers etc have short ones, but i'm not sure wheter to just take it off?

Does the tomos run on 6v?
If so, i might have the ex idicators, switch and respective loom off you if you still have them. Need some on my puch.

I just took my front guard off coz my tyres are too fat but the front end is so sloppy now that in having to buy a strengthening hoop for it so you may have to do that too. Whip it off, stand in front of the bike with the wheel between your knees and see if you can twist the bars left and right

Got the new carb today and put it on straight away lol and it runs! My previous 'ped was a Honda PC50 and the Tomos feels 100 times faster than it, can't wait to get some tuning parts for this. II still haven't got the ATF fluid i ordered, and in my haste to get it running, i put some 20w50 in the gearbox, and this is causing it to slowy shift into 2nd gear, so i'll have to sort that tomorrow. More updates and video tomorrow

How funny we were only talking about these the other day, what with them being in the Woolies catologue. Made In Yugoslavia eh? Probably why they dissapeared. Looking good there and a right bargain.

Managed to do some more on the Tomos today, after having a busy weekend. On friday, I made up a small mudguard/bracket to mount the tailight & plate on: Not too sure if it looks ok? I Think it could do with a small light nearer to the back of the seat? Also went to Halfords today to look at some handlebars, as the standard granny spec one's were far from racer style. Bought some bars and fitted them straight away, looks alot better now I think, much more racey: I also picked up some gloss black paint, as i'm going to paint the rims black and maybe some other bits. Should have some more updates soon
