Many thanks for the comments guys.....it's certainly a cool looking car now and Amanda LOVES it which is the main thing. I doubt anything more will be added, it's a fine line and I reckon any more and it starts to lose more than it gains. I think Amanda really likes it as it is. ;D Thanks to the Area 52 guys for helping with the make-over and also, especially, to Gareth who kindly donated the car which has raised some money for the unit. Is now a good time to say I have some bright yellow mk1 punto lowering springs (40mm) you could of had I don't think that would have helped much. It's come down around 70mm on the front and about 90mm on the back! I'm tempted to take another 1/4 out of the front, but for now, it still looks dead good as it is. Just be careful of the CVT gearbox, because if you even look at it the wrong way it will break ;D She's not a girl racer and drives very carefully so there should be no worries about the gearbox *touches wood* and even when I drive it, I'm not pretending it's anything other than a 1.2 Punto auto.

That spring retaining work is dodgy as hell. Are you trying to kill yourselves?!

I think you either forgot a smiley ;D after that or you forgot to add the 'helpful' part of the sentence to justify your comment......

If they need a 'helpful' part to explain whats wrong with what theyve done then they shouldnt be modifying cars! It's downright dangerous how that spring is 'retained'

Interesting how every post you make on RR is either knocking someone's work or slagging off what they've posted. Why not lighten up a bit, eh?

If they need a 'helpful' part to explain whats wrong with what theyve done then they shouldnt be modifying cars! It's downright dangerous how that spring is 'retained' Let's examine the evidence again, shall we? After cutting the front springs we found that the springs wouldn't seat on the lower spring cup at all. Pulling them onto the cup was a struggle only for them to pop straight off again. This was without any weight on them, so not exactly great for dropping the weight of the car onto them. Once out, Ian (BiAS) devises a cunning plan to fabricate and weld on some retaining hoops for the ends of the spring to locate and be held top & bottom. As well as the retaining hoops, a plate was also welded around 30% of the lower spring cup to give even more support to the spring. Luckily I found some nice 2mm plate that was already curved so fitting it would be easier....it was actually the base of an old CD rack! Cut to size and handed over to Ian he got cracking. Belt & braces you could say The theory seems sound, the welds look consistent, not the way I would have done it mind; I'd probably made a slightly longer loop to hold the spring end in, combined it with that bottom flap and then made a lip to go all of the way around the bottom spring plate. But then that's me. Guess we'll find out as the mileage is laid down...

Aargh! it's the cutting springs can of worms. Sidmuss - care to explain what exactly you don't like about the retaining set-up? (as I shouldn't be modifying cars and thus need it explaining ) I've used that set up on various cars through the years, no kittens or nuns have died as a result, they've always mot'd and 2 have passed vosa inspections. Not knocking your opinion at all, it's yours and you're entitled to it, just curious as to your reasons. BTW- Bruce is a very bad influence, it is entirely his fault that I've looked at 3 spokes (which should be the modifying crime of the century) and thought 'mmmm I like that'

^^^ What everyone else said.
I shouldn't like it, but I do. A lot. I didn't even like 3-spokes when I was an avid Max Power reader in the 90's!

hows this car going then? Was sold ages ago. Oddy enough, with all four springs still firmly in place, and no fatal accidents or amputations to report. Oh, whilst your here, perhaps you can answer BiAS's questions regarding your condemnation of the spring retaining method...

Just gonna make a thread on the website and forum stuff section to have him banned, he's a known troll, though he did/does own a Ford Probe, so it's fairly understandable that he's been driven to been a c**t.
