Liverpool, ideally. I'm going to speak to a chap I know who's a landlord with a lot of industrial units. Will post on 'ere if I find anything affordable.

I rent a couple of local lock ups, but there is no electric in either. If you find anything I would like to know.

Cheeky first post, and its an old thread but I'm looking for space to rent in/around Liverpool. Would need to be close to transport links as I don't have a running vehicle and require space for one (maybe two?) vehicles. If there are enough people looking for space then I was thinking the possibility of shared space in an industrial unit? I've got tools etc which people would be welcome to use, and have skills in brakes, engine/gearbox/axle rebuilds but not the best and complex electrical faults or welding - mainly because I don't own a welder so havent been able to practice! If anyone is interested either pm me or post in the thread.

Did quite a lot of research Found that basically the business rates involved would double the cost of any rental UNLESS the unit can be designated as storage only Which then means it cannot have services [water + electricity] That kinda defeats the whole point of a UNIT really
'No services' is why lock up garages do not end up as 'rateable'
Hence lock-ups end up costing about £2 per sq foot per annum
Units typically start at about £5 sqft/pa + rates + bills
So at the moment I've stuck with sourcing a lock up more local to home [on wirral]
Did think that a shared modest sized unit with a larger outside storage space might work economically between a group with those working on cars stored in the unit paying more than those storing cars outside . . .

i've looked at some farm units on sealand road, chester a few times but always get let down! business rates are free at the moment too.

'Free' if you can claim small buisness rates.
This isn't going to go on forever though.

reading this with interest! I'm on the hunt for somewhere to store and work on my daily drive as she's about to be retired from everyday use. would be very happy to share if the right place came along for the right price.

Also might be interested in the liverpool area. I have a garage but it's got my MG in, and I need to work on the pug instead this winter!

chodjinn: I'm assuming you're the same chodjinn from the V8 forums? (can't be many of that name around! ) In which case we've met, I bought few bits off you last year, cant remember what now but it included a huge bottle jack! would be good to share a space with a fellow V8'er as we'd have even more in common! Hows the MG doing? I saw you were selling off most of the turbo kit a while ago. any more plans? James

There are a few farms near Grosvenor Garden Centre - which is just off the A55 opposite side of Chester Business Park roundabout. Mate left his camper there for 3 months - but its outside (caravan storage) but I guess for a car the rates would be cheap enough - think he paid £50 for 3 months or thereabouts? Not sure if that helps - but farms are the cheaper option usually.

There are a couple of farms near Chester (Mickle Trafford area) with small units for rent. Maybe with them being farms there'd be some negotiation for outside storage of the odd car too?

If people are serious about this, how much would folks be willing to pay? for a secure, weather proof 5m x 8m (ish, just for an example) work space with leccy and water in a shared unit with about 3 or 4 others? would have a 'lounge' hang out space too. and has loads of outside parking. also how much are folks willing to pay for an outside parking/ storage space at the same location? Only reason I ask is I've seen somewhere local to me, but it's not cheap so would have to pay it's way, but it is all of the above! a proper official collective could make it work, if we're all prepared to put our money where our mouths are. I know times are tight, economic turndown, times of austerity etc etc... so I'm just putting the feelers out. Could be the start of a new community in the north west?
