Large update over a long period so bare with it: Few pics of the recent photoshoot and subsequent paint job: I bought a 8kg TTV racing flywheel last week and thanks to a friend a decent R28 has been provided, these two are going in tomorrow. Today I cleaned up the unit and fitted a set of 10mm (yes 10mm) silicone spark plug leads.. what a difference!! She pulls stronger now so definitely a good investment. Last week I controversially fitted a pair of FORD Fiesta RS Turbo recaro front seats, I used to have a set of these in my Nova turbo and I loved them for their comfort and body holding. I also fitted a digi dash, its modified with white LED's so no yellowness!! erm erm erm oh thanks to a friend I got hold of a coin holder that goes under the handbrake handle, woo!! The list still goes on with future plans, I have sourced 2 sets of Insignia 17" steelies. These look identical to my 16" steelies but... larger. Why bother?? Well lets face it the car is very low, too low in fact. Two sumps and a little exhaust damage has dictated that. If I were to simply raise the car up it won't look as good (arch gaps). The way round it is to maintain the same suspension height but make the wheels bigger, thats half the reason. The other reason is I have some big brakes to go on and they need 17's minimum. Since last updating the car has had some radical changes, the week I had off was to paint the car. It was a risky paint job but it was a success: The original knackered paint was prepped and then the pattern hand drawn onto the car and then each of the four colours (sand, nato green, brown and black) painted on separately. The whole process took 9 days in total (about 70 hours) and is well worth the effort, but work still needs doing. Yesterday I fitted the new front brakes in preperation for the nurburgring trip in september: The brakes are Hi-spec monster 6-pots with alloy bells and 330mm rotors, although they are new bedding in you can feel the difference. Today the prototype coilovers were replaced with the new ones which are basically the same but: Offer a better shocker range for the drop I wanted (prototypes would bottom out) Run Bilstein B6 monotube dampeners (I'm a big fan of these) Run higher poundage springs After a little tweaking the new setup feels perfect for road holding and isn't overly harsh. There seems to be something else wrong with the pictures but I'm in Spain and being a bit of a bar fly...

Little update: Haven't done much recently apart from a few things: I went to replace the heater matrix in preparation for the winter, its an of a job with the steering column and pedal box having to come out so I can remove the matrix cartridge. Anyway the whole reason for replacing the matrix was I had assumed the old one was almost totally blocked as on the old engine last winter the heat output was curse word at best. I never connected the matrix when I installed the 3.0, I removed the cabin pipes and found that the old matrix isn't blocked at all! I connected it all up and its working perfectly. Now means I have a spare new genuine GM matrix. The only other thing was that I reinstalled the old higher build coilovers which are softer and ride higher for the coming snowy roads. So those are the nice bits of news gone and the curse word bit of news: After the engineer installed stem seals in the head without consulting me I fitted the head regardless and obviously they are cheap curse word because they are leaking again I plan to replace them with genuine GM units next month with the head in place, fingers crossed.

You need to IMG tag your images :-)
Looks mad though ;D
Mines down at the auto electrician trying to work out why hazard circuit stays live with the fuse out, why it keeps blowing the fuse, and why the internals of the hazard switch were wrecked.
We are expecting some bodgework behind the dash :-(

Mega update: Lots have changed, including my mind - several times! I will try and cut the story as short as possible. I continued to refine the supercharger idea, I got the engine systems all sorted and moved onto the gearbox and it came down to 3 options: 1: A lotus carlton gearbox - box costs around £500, custom flywheel, clutch, prop would mean a price around £1500. Too expensive 2: A getreg 265 box - similar mods needed, total cost a little less (around £1200) - too expensive. 3: Give up Option 3 was the only real option here, the output of the engine wouldn't exceed 280bhp and I can get that power from other engine/box combos a lot easier. I re-evaluated the situation, I wasn't overly happy with the engine itself - it was a big old lump that needed more money spent to make it not smoke (the stem seals were cheapies and leaked again). The estate is my daily driver, so it needs to do everything well and the 3.0 wasn't any good on fuel. So after much thought I decided to ditch the engine/box and go for something else. I decided to go for a 2.0 Turbo, I already had the RWD Z20LET engine and omega 5-speed ready so I fitted that. The engine was originally from a 2001 Astra Coupe turbo, it's modern, smooth, refined, great on fuel (45mpg on a long run) and gives loads of power and torque. The omega gearbox bolts straight up to the Z20LET and have been proven to handle 400bhp for long periods. Old engine being removed: The rig ready to be installed: Battery tray moved to other side of bay: With the tray moved the ABS pump is moved forward to clear the turbo setup on the new engine: Engine installed: The wiring was the biggest hurdle, about 60 odd wires to relocate!! It took about a week but it all came together: New slam panel welded and painted: Trial fitment of bumper, FMIC, lights: Took the car down the road to Longlife Exhausts in Bicester for the alloy boost pipes to be constructed, the job was flawless and I highly recommend their work: Before: After: It was nice to have the old girl out after several months in the unit: Turbo brace cooked up and some colour coding done, also the inlet manifold was removed and cleaned as it was totally filthy Now you are up to speed, tomorrow I pick up some gaskets to refit the inlet and all the other bits to it.

Also the MOT is booked in for the 7th of April, a week after is the remap hopefully. The turbo kicks out enough CFM for 500bhp on this engine, however the block, gearbox and clutch will be overly stressed over 350bhp so the target is 330bhp to 350bhp with a nice smooth power curve and plenty of torque.

cheers chap, I don't see why it would fail on MOT... most of the car has been replaced over the past year or so with upgrades so no worn bush/joints/gaiters etc.... but I will be doing my own mini MOT checks beforehand to make sure.
