I cant just go giving all my secrets away!! lets just say you don't need all the flash paints and guns when you tried to build cool cars from feck all all ya life and still trying, hah ha. ive ruined a fair few cars in the past just seeing stuff in mags and having a stab at my own motors and mates who trust me enough.the owner of this, drunk monkey a.k.a chewy to the boys who know him, is twice as tall and wide as me so I have to try get it right or he`ll body slam me again and I don't think id survive a second one, ha ha ha!! hope you like it chew! cant wait for ya to see it in the flesh! il see if oldskooldub has got a pic of a b3 passat I had that was one that went well wrong! ha cheers guys fair play to you mate. ideas for panel paint jobs keep me awake at night, my testers going to be my B3 estate, just keep practising with panels and see where it goes! ;D

Great work, but I have a question, and sorry if its a stupid one.
I always thought that you had to lacquer over base coat within a given time, or else you run the risk of the lacquer not sticking properly, but you are obviously not doing this, so how do you make sure it sticks, or am I talking rubbish

no your right, thats what I was always told anyway, but, what I'm doings different. the base coats are 50% thiners and when you put that over fresh clear (flatted back so keyed) it bites in. in fact when putting the base colours on you have to go slow and carefull because it will bite in too hard, make the clear react and flare up. any one who has say painted a panel, had a colour match problem on a metallic and tries to re paint within say the next few days after to rectify will know if you storm in with the base coat it will freshen up the clearcoat thinners and react. I painted the car red base then clear as normal, then flatted back to key then I apply the patterns is very light so its almost see through compared to when you would normally paint a car. if you look on you tube people use fake pound notes printed on their printer at home, cut out, stuck on and then airbrushed round the edges so it looks like money in ya paint. looks great but I don't like the idea of putting paper between coats. that scares me abit. hope that all makes sense

I'm just looking at my first 'lace' attempt and dreading it - this is truelly inspiring! I did have a dork moment and wondered why you were putting VW emblems all over the roof - then a 'where'd they go' and a 'DOH' - masking! - hey - it's Monday morning........ You've obviously got skills - and this has come out blindingly well. Hats off sir. John
