I was thinking about these the other day, when a fantastic metallic green nexia was parked outside my house, what engines do they have in them as standard ?!? I think that's a typo ;D I think they're GM Vauxhall units aren't they? I always assumed they were the same as what came in the Mk2 Astra. I'm always amazed how many I see in the scrapyard, I mean, they're tried and tested mechanicals and everything... my only conclusion I could draw is that they depreciated so much the owners actually owed money on them, and scrapped them instead

I seem to remember when Daewoos came available in UK (sold by Halfords in 1995 remember) that the salesman told me (yes I did look at one purely out of curiosity at the time) that it was some cast off Mitsubishi unit.

When I used to work in a local garage we had a Nexia come in with a holed radiator - I think it was close to £300 for a new one, and that was with an 8 week wait.

It's MK2 underframe; although I think the outer shape was actually the 'GM' Cavalier shape sold in USA. Possibly? - the shape certainly mirrors that of the Mitsubishi Galant of the Mk2/3 Cav era - obviously also a GM car. I presume these cars platform share aswell?

Mitsubishi nothing to do with GM, but they do have links with Chrysler and other Mopar brands. Are they still officially part of the DaimlerChrysler group, or did they get chucked out for losing too much money?

From Breakeryard.com...
In 1993 the larger Espero was added, again based on a obsolete Opel/Vauxhall model, the Ascona/Cavalier. Rather than being a direct carry-over, the Espero bodywork was redesigned by Bertone. The cars were obsolete and ugly, and though reasonably equipped sold mainly on price. The true value of the cars was hidden by the inclusion of a generous warranty and servicing package. This captured customers to the Daewoo service operation; but the products' real value became all too apparent at trade-in time.
I'm 95% sure the engines were Vauxhall / Opel units. I plundered a Nexia for fuel system parts for my MegaSquirt project (as they like to use GM stuff) and they were identical to Cav stuff

But.. but... IF they had GM engines, why did the 'top spec' Nexia's have a 1500cc displacement enginge, when the Astra's were 1.6??? There's a wiki page about them, which appears to be 100% factually inaccurate. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daewoo_Nexia

Wikipedia are talking bobbins - When they were launched it was no secret that they were (licenced) re-hashed Vauxhalls. Maybe they bought the rights to them rather than had them handed to them as part of the GM group at that time?
Tis a bit odd that the engines were 1.5 - The ubiquitous Mitsi unit is the only one I know of with that displacement (as far as licenced engines go). Unless they bored out a GM unit... or mixed-and-matched their engines.... I'm sure at least some models had GM sourced power. Maybe it was an Espero 1.8 I took the parts off... can't remember now. Defo had GM stuff on it though.

a mate of mine has got both a Nexia and a Espero The nexia is rusting in exactly the same places as the mk2 astra, rear wheel arches front aches above the bumper sills boot floor etc etc ;D The engine has izuzu printed on the top though. The Espero doesn't seem to have a rust problem but the electrics have gone haywire.

The saloon Nexias are very common in Romania, where they are amusingly called the 'Daewoo Racer'.

The Espero doesn't seem to have a rust problem but the electrics have gone haywire. Well they do look a bit like a Xantia, so obviously they should have the same problems! Apparently the 1st generation Matiz (the little ones) are based on a Bertone idea for a new Fiat 500 that Fiat rejected. Anyway, up in rally country (rural Wales) the local boys are thinking about using Nexia 2 dr shells when their Astra GTE shells get too rotten. If the Nexias are all being scrapped, they better get a move and stockpile a few.
